Mud Stuff Heated Wing Mirrors
Brought a few items from Mud Stuff tonight. Inc some larger wing mirrors.

I was temped by the heated mirror kit, but giving it some thought.

Has anybody got this kit fitted & how long did it take to do this??

Thanks Chris

If you want bro fit it properly and neatly (drill the mirror arms, hide the wire behind the hinge, pass the wire into the door and through the existing rubber loom boot into the bulkhead)

I reckon it's a good days work Thumbs Up

I was going to do this, I've just brought some new mirrors and arms and thought I'd connect them to the heated windscreen supply.
Do you think it will take the extra load through the relay timer ?
If it's ok does any one know which side of the screen is the +
Cheers It's good to be back from the dark side

I've got my wires into the bulkhead.

Do we know where they then go?

How do you route them to the dash?

The Timer isn't the relay, so you could just up the really to a 70 amp one?

if your going to upgrade the relay to a higher amp one then you would need to upgrade the wiring to it as well

easy way is to use the relay switched feed to screen to switch another relay for mirror heaters that way there still switched from screen switch and will use timer as well , without any extra loading on oringinal wiring

wire extra relay in normal way with fused feed etc for mirror heaters and just use switching feed from load side of screen relay

Last year I added some heated mirror pads to my larger mirrors. On the whole my wires are quite discreet and have caused me no problems in the 18 months they've been fitted. I didn't wire mine to the heated windscreen circuit and have kept them entirely seperate giving complete control when I want them on.
As they are independant I can use them to keep the mirrors clear when it is raining, driving in spray conditions and of course when it is frosty. All these scenarios are often wanted but there is no need for the windscreen to be on plus there is very little need for a relay as the current draw is very low.

I'm half way through installing mine at the moment. I've taken a feed of the switched side of the Heated Rear Screen Switch to activate a separate relay for the mirrors. The load (and wire gauge) difference between the 2 circuits is significant and each circuit should be fused accordingly.
It's taken me ages to get round to installing these as I've never seen a method of installing that I've been happy with. I finally figured out a way to fit them and have the drivers side fitted and tested - passenger side at the weekend and then I'll write it up Smile http://defender90xs.blogspot.co.uk/
