Any more details on the Ring DRLs?

Any photos of cutting the bumper?

Do the sit in front, flush, or behind an aperture you cut? (Hard to tell from the photos)

Aside from loving all things Solihull based, another passion is classic cars and aviation (neither of which I have the fortune to experience first hand or own I might add)... but what do they have in common?

Well, after a frustrating long summer of driving into blinding sun light and grappling with the stock Defender sun visors, only to suddenly realise – amid panic – that forward visibility was immediately reduced by 50% (not a pleasant feeling on faster A roads and motorways) an idea was formed from said other passions.

So what do classic cars and aviation have in common then? Well in short it's the need to be able to block sun light with the limitation of shallow windscreens, but retain the ability to see in every direction (obviously more so in a plane).

How do you achieve this? Well in both applications you achieve this with Acrylic Tinted Sunvisors. So that is what we built and are currently seeing if this could be a viable product for the masses.

The visors have already been through many iterations and designs and finally we have a design that we feel suited the Defender interior, provided the product performance we required, increased driver safety (as both Keis and I were sick to death of going through the 'mad sun visor panic' when blinded by the sun)... oh and most importantly look gorgeous.

The added benefit of using a tinted acrylic of higher quality is it also actually sharpens the view through the actual plastic, almost like a high end set of sunglasses (as you can see from the pics). Since testing these over the last few months I've never even touched a set of sunglasses whilst driving, so feel these deliver above and beyond.

Hi Tiger,

Ring DRL's are these: http://www.ringautomotive.co.uk/uk/product...ng/BRL0397

I got them off eBay for about £55 ish

They sit absolute flush with bumper on the front face and are mounted through bottom of the bumper and spaced to a central height. I've also noted in previous posts where the wiring went using the existing LR Defender running light cable in the wiring loom (this is sealed off for UK Defenders but is still part of the loom).

great idea could be made a differing depths DEFENDER 90 TDCI XS,

Did you laser cut the bumper for the DRLs then or was it drill, hack saw and hours with a file?

As a tall chap I find the standard sun visors next to useless - with it fully down I can't see ahead at all - so I'm very interested in this idea.

Also as LR90XS2011 says, differing depths would be a good idea too - in fact Mrs Nosnibod has a cheap plastic extension to the sun visor on her car that does the same job. Dave

Funny enough we discussed this but the value in deciding on a set size is they fit perfectly up inside the existing forms of the Defender headlining, so it looks really OE vs. added on. I'll try and take a pic of it folded up to show you.

Hi Nosnibod,

Funny you say about the height issue, but when a few friends had seen the car with them in, even the lets say vertically challenged individuals amongst the gang had all said how useless they found stock visors – as they lost a huge amount of forward visibility when folded down. Especially on motorway driving when forward visibility, safe braking and lane planning was obviously heightened.

As said,standard visors are useless for tall chaps/chapesses,so I'm interested anorl,altho probably make me own,lol.Thanks fer the idea. Pov.spec,ftw. 2006, 110,TD5.

I have been looking around for something like this for a little while but not found anything suitable.

I would certainly be interested in a couple of sets, they would be really useful in the TD5 when off road.
