Personally I run without them.
If fitted they don't prevent muck getting in but they can allow it to build up whereas at least without them there are less nooks & crannies for it to get trapped. ONE LIFE, GET IT! |

Leave them off for ease of cleaning.
The downside is faster brake pad wear, but if you're off-roading then you will get that anyway. |
