Bit more I tried yesterday (I may as well keep posting what I can in case someone can help :p).
I took rocker cover off and checked everything out. Cleaned out the injector loom and reset the injector bump clearance. Dont think it's made much difference to the rattle. All set to exactly 1 turn out from end point. Nothing's moved or shifted under there. Tempted to try the injector seals and washers again, but I dont have any of the others signs that they're bad. Plus, they're only a couple months old (same as loom)! On the way home on Friday, I had some hesitation and now my clutch pedal rides right at the top. I know the argument of the pedal riding high when imminent clutch failure is due is a contentious point in the mechanical world. But is this a sign of again, clutch or DMF? Master and slave are fine. They were both changed just after I picked her up and the fluid level is fine. Might all be useless info, but I may as well post anything and everything! Cheers. |

My rattle noise that's a bit intermittent was worse today so I took it to the garage and they thought DMF which was my original thought so it's booked in for next week
 I'll post up if it's cured |

Mine's still going and getting worse!
Sounds a right bag'o'nails in the morning! Goes a little when warm but still there! and it's definitely engine RPM biased. Dip the clutch and the rattle is still there, but just at idle speed and not at road speed RPM. Every day almost I'm crawling around under it trying to pin point it! Driving me mad and taking all enjoyment out of it. Just need to be sure it's the DMF before I outlay the dough! Have a lot to buy for it over the next few weeks! Just dont have the usual signs like slippage! Very confused! |

MK1,
Did yours sound anything like this? (Yes, another video :p) ... Keep listening and you may be able pick it up. Anyone else able to help still too? On a side note, does anyone have a sound clip of a TD5 miss firing when running? Cheers. &feature=youtu.be |

When you were stationary (so there was no engine roar or wind noise) I could here what sounded like mine. If your sat stationary in neutral with the clutch pedal pressed and rev and let off the accelerator a couple of times does it make the rattle in time with revs and if you let the clutch out and rev again is it quieter? This is what mine seems to be doing which is why we think DMF but mine sounds like the clutch release bearing might be on its way out too which is also causing a low rumble when pressing the clutch. Mines in next Thursday so I should have some more ideas by next weekend hopefully.

I've put all the sound proofing and stuff back now so sounds ultra quiet, but that's just getting used to the quietness again compared to being open.
I dont think mine changes clutch in or out really. This is what's making mine more puzzling (to me anyway). Clutching doesn't effect it except when rolling as I press clutch in the rattle drops with revs (engine rpm, not road rpm). |

The DMF turns at engine speed so the rattle would drop with the clutch in, if it was the dmf

Sorry, not sure I worded right. Fully understand about the DMF being engine speed
 .
I meant on idle, clutch in, clutch out, the same. When running, like you say, it's engine RPM dependent  . |

Well the clutch and DMF have been changed and on mine it has made it a lot quieter and smoother to drive but I still have a little bit of a rattle like yours. Mine seems not as loud as yours but the clutch work didn't change the rattle. Sorry.

mk1collector, Hmm ... damn ... I assume you did the clutch release and spigot bush to?
I may have asked this, but yours still rattle with engine running and clutch in but revving it? |

Yes, everything new. My rattle is really intermittent, it isn't there every trip. It also seems to mainly be under load but in the very low bit of Rev range it's seems to go with higher speed, also if the throttle isn't pressed at all it doesn't rattle.
But with the new parts it's a lot quieter overall. |
