....and we're off on yet another round of dieselcentric willy waving Steve.
Owned numerous Land Rover vehicles of all shapes and sizes over the decades. Current Defender: A non tarts hand-bagged Puma 110 XS USW. [Insert something impressive here such as extensive list of previous Land Rovers or examples of your prestigeous and expensive items, trinkets, houses, bikes, vehicles etc] http://forums.lr4x4.com I used to be Miserable ...but now I'm ecstatic. |

Personally I am not too worried about mpg. Have got as low as 17-18 mpg and up to 35 mpg out of a 300TDi
All that interests me is have I got enough fuel in to get me to where I want to go and preferably back again as well! Brendan |

Last month 100 miles= 30 M.P.G. loaded and towing a caravan, return trip without load and caravan =25 M.P.G. go figure. Don't make old people mad.
We don't like being old in the first place, so it doesn't take much to us off. Richard |

Richard, you should not have written that here. When Caterham sees this, he is going to start towing anything heavy he can lay his hands on, and we will have to read his reports that he now gets +700 miles out of a tank. You never actually own a Defender. You merely look after it for the next generation.

Er...chaps, if we don't like countless mpg threads, perhaps this one should stop at 3 pages? Tell someone you love them today because life is short.
But shout it at them in German because life is also terrifying and confusing... |

This might be cruel but .......have you considered that your speedo/mileometer might be faulty?
Just saying like? |

I've been thinking about streamlining my 110 like the mallard. Another way of cutting fuel costs is walking.

This is the LR4x4 membership recruitment thread. Very cunning but well done... I'm sold Jon - 110 td5 [sold]. Currently Defenderless. |

If nothing else you lot keep me smiling
Been doing the home brew for more than 5 years now and the wife's golf that says no bio on the filler is still going strong and this has run for a significant time on 100% bio. Mine on the other hand has run upto approx 30% which in my book is very little?? In Reading and still not filled up yet.... got 575 on the trip which is something I'm well happy with considering the number of smiles I'm getting no doubt suprising others with my speed between 40-60 The great importance here for me is lack of loot and only getting 20p per mile from work so I'm always trying to break even. Not wanting to get too much into the argument of whether bio is good or bad but I'm inclined to think it has far superior lubricating properties?? |

Blimey I tow a lot faster then 40 mph and am not going to admit on an open forum to towing over 60mph.
Until you get 800 miles + to a tankful you will not get close to achieving a record. Defenders are not fuel efficient vehicle so accept it. Brendan |

You can claim the rest back against tax. You should be able to claim back a further 25p. Speak hmrc or go on their website. That might help to keep the motorways running a bit better.
I know a few care workers who do this. |

Fuel consumption never worries me too much. On our just ended 12K run I did my usual check at the pump....without van approx. 10-11 per 100, with van weighing approx. 1.5t around 13 per 100.
If it was to suddenly get worse I'd know it and start looking but otherwise don't bother. I only fuel up at well used stations as dirty fuel would be real problem here which would worry me more than a bit extra used. AlanH. |
