Soft top 300Tdi
So having been looking for a while, I today collected a 300Tdi defender 90 truck cab that I intend to turn into a soft top. I have found a photo of an American defender here
http://www.adventuremotorcars.com/web/used...ma/641078/

Ideally I too would like the series doors with removable tops. What I don't understand about the images as you scroll through them is how the canvas hood is secured round the door once you see it on? Have they in fact pieced some more parts in that would have taken time and effort. Also I like the look of the chunky frame, does anyone know who this would be made by?

I'm not sure my link above will work when I post this but hopefully it will

Many thanks

Hi there
The Car in your pictures is a genuine NAS Defender 90, so regarding the roll bar its a genuine part which I think is Safety Devices? It will be very expensive though, you could also try protection and performance cages which will all fall under the NAS style.

The door frames and gutters have been taken off for the photos, which is a bit of a faff but looks better and reckon they have better weather there anyway Smile
Heres a picture of mine so you can see the structure around the doors, which is the same for 2 piece doors.

SailingTom that is one sweet motor. Many thanks for all your replies. I suspected there must have been other parts and I just don't think it looks as good when the roof is off completely with those parts left on. How often do you actually completely remove the canvas?

Im in a fortunate position that I have picked this 90 up in an auction and I run around in a 110 for work/normal use. I could do something like this picture attached I found in a landy mag and forget about the soft top bit but I'm just not convinced I would get enough use in Scotland!!

The one like linked by muddy would be the ideal solution if its just a toy as the bimini hoods are quick to take off and put on along with door tops if it rains. In answer to your question I only take it fully off mine if its guaranteed blue skies. (like the other pic Thumbs Up ) Most of the time though I have it like this which Suits me well.
Of course if you have vinyl seats you can get waterproof speakers and radios, so being cought out in a shower wouldnt matter so much.

My soft top Mr. Green
(best decision i ever made to convert. its better to drive, better visibility, more iconic, quieter and warmer than before if you can believe it)

200tdi hard top converted to soft top with all wheel trim mohair canvas, large diameter hoops and bars, S&P door bottoms for defender conversions and rocky mountain door tops and rear tailgate. Took me about 10 hours to convert (mostly about sorting a bit of rot on my cappings). 2 man lift to pull the roof off. If you have any Q's let me know.
