Surely you’re being ironic…
First of all, hashtags on a forum where hashtags don’t work. See me afterwards boy! Secondly, Daily Fail didn’t show any detail, just the methodology employed. They didn’t describe in any detail what equipment would be needed, how to procure it, what software is required… And actually, as a graphic warning to the public, it works quite well. It’s not often that I agree with an editorial decision made by the Daily Mail. You can be assured that by the time it makes the national press, the technique will be well known amongst the ‘criminal underclasses’ as the DM et al used to refer to them. Put another way, if you are getting your thieving tips from DM, there’s really no helping you. Similarly, when Countryfile did a piece on the theft of Defenders a while back, people were complaining that John Craven et al showed how easy it was to strip a Defender. If you need the help of the BBC to strip a vehicle, you really are a basket case and should probably ask your carer to get your medication increased. ‘Security through obscurity is no security at all’ is the mantra used in encryption/information security. Perhaps it’s time the car industry started holding white-hat events? Back on topic somewhat, since when did any ‘Fender owner consider ‘physical’ security measures obsolete?! I bought one of these yellow things a few years ago when I had an old TDi300, now I still use it on my new TDCi and touch wood so far no evidence of anyone trying to nick either!
I think any visible deterrent which shows you have made an effort is going to make the thieves think twice. 2.2 90 XS 88" Series One Old Norton Minerva |

Caterham would have to start at least three threads on 'stealing a Defender' to canvass for advice and tips first.

Then speak with the owner to see how long the symptoms have existed, if it's still under warranty, what they think themselves is wrong and what the fix is.....blah, blah, blah, blah, zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz! I get those yellow things of steering wheels in less than a minute with a flat head screwdriver.
Trust me when I say they are not a security device. |

^^ Suggestions from a professional? You never actually own a Defender. You merely look after it for the next generation.

If I was a tea leaf I wouldn't bother with a flat head screwdriver
I'd cut the steering wheel with croppers in 2 seconds flat, slide the lock off and throw it out of the window. The weakest park of that set up is the rubber round thing. |

Now this has an anti drill key way to stop you drilling the disks inside the lock. Once you pull off the plastic cover it has a hardened steel housing protecting the lock. The only week spot is the rivets holding the whole thing together but even they are hardened. Usually takes me 1 HSS drill bit to drill out the rivets then it just falls to pieces .[/url] |

And if I attack the steering wheel and not the device?
