Advice please...
I've had this painful split next to my thumbnail for months now and nothing will shift it. It's probably due to having my hands in solvents/liquids too much during recent renovation projects but that was months ago. Splits on other fingers have gone on their own. I've tried normal hand creams, sandpaper, plasters etc. but it just won't go. I suspect I'm not the only one on here with such a problem and I was wondering if anyone has a remedy? Medicine and witchcraft are both acceptable. Cheers Matt Tell someone you love them today because life is short. But shout it at them in German because life is also terrifying and confusing... |

Thanks Mal - helpful as ever
Thanks gilarion. I'll see what I can get in the Pharmacy here - need to find a translation of hydrocolloid and seaweed first... Clemmo - the Climber's Hand Balm looks too good to be true but is certainly worth a shot as it's useful for other things too - delivery may be 10 Euros but there are a lot of other goodies on the Cotswold site too so I may buy over 100 Euros and get free delivery Cheers Matt Tell someone you love them today because life is short. I've got dry skin so get this a lot especially if I've been working outside in winter. I can usually get splits to heal eventually by keeping them covered with a plaster. If it's in an awkward area where a plaster won't stay put then I either smother them in New Skin which stings a bit or make sure I keep my hands smothered in a decent barrier cream ....but I've also had good results with udder cream Steve.

What he said above! Just make sure it doesn't get into the would it's self where possible.
You might have to sand it off a week or two later though.. |

Elizabeth Arden eight hour cream is good stuff, and I also use medicated lip balm, as is heavy duty, waterproof, and comes in small tube so can be carried in pocket for regular application.

Cheers guys
I've ordered the Climber's balm and some purple wellies for the wife. Her Hunters have cracked after 18 months and when she called them up they said they last 2 years max In the meantime I've done what MOG suggests and just stuck plasters over it - permanently soggy though. Superglue is the last resort and I'd have to buy some first... Tell someone you love them today because life is short. I've never found super glue to work, just stings, sets, then peals off.
Good luck. |

As long as it's clean and not infected sogginess is what your after as it promotes healing, it's the dry / thick skin that causes the splits. Steve.
