2001 Defender 110 Td5 CSW Java Black
Upgrades to my Defender 110 TD5
Well its been a while since I have posted anything about my 110 which I have had for a few years now.

This is what it looked like when i got it:

After a couple of years it looked like this:

It is now going back to being more subtle by losing the spot lights and I have swapped the front winch bumper with a Flatdog DRL bumper the Mud Terrains have also just gone in preparation for new BFG All Terrains on black powder coated boost alloys. Will update with latest pic tomorrow after a polish up. I am also looking at getting roof rack powder coated.

Thats the great thing about these though when you get bored or fancy a change they are easy to modify to suit your needs. 2001 TD5 110 County Station Wagon - sold

This weeks job was fitting Wipac Crystals with Osram Nightbreakers and relaying the front headlights. I tried them for the first time tonight in the dark and overall it is a big improvement over standard for very little money. Also gave me opportunity to wire in the FlatDog DRL bumper

Fitted the DRL automatic switching unit to the wing beside the radiator:

Fed the wires through to the area behind the headlight in convulated tubing and run some twin core cable in tubing from the battery all the way to the front headlight as the DRL unit needs to be wired directly to the battery:

Spliced the orange wire from the switching unit into the side light circuit so the DRL's go out when the sidelights come on to keep me legal:

The loom upgrade for the headlights was only around £7 off Ebay from China, i brought 2 for that price so i had spare wiring and parts. They had wired a couple of pins wrong on the relay which i swapped and while i was at it i run 2 seperate power feeds to each relay with their own fuses. I improved the ground points aswell. Overall though the loom was a good starting point and i would have struggled to buy the bits to do it myself for that money.

Relays and fuses mounted up high on inner wing:

The power feed came off the alternator in convulated tubing to protect it

The loom run along top of radiator panel and plugged straight into back of left hand headlight with a ground on the rad panel.

Loom plugged into existing headlight plug on drivers side and taped up to protect it you can see new yellow headlight plug ready to fit:

Some tidying up of DRL wiring before rad panel goes back on:

Thats it you can now enjoy some extra lighting and also protect your headlight switch from being burnt out! 2001 TD5 110 County Station Wagon - sold

Thanks got lots of inspiration and help from others on here Thumbs Up I have to say I'm really impressed with the led units I had led bulbs in the existing before which had a blue tint but these are much better. My only disappointment with the wipac kit has been the relay which causes my trailer warning light to come on when I indicate. I've seen the solution is the rdx one though by the looks of it. 2001 TD5 110 County Station Wagon - sold

yup the RDX relay has a variable resistor which you alter to get the trailer lamp functionality back, although it can't sense the minimal resistance of LED trailer lights.

Smart looking truck you got there Very Happy Mark S

Simon, I had them made by a company called Metallics UK

Link: http://www.metallicsuk.com/index.php?route=common/home

They custom made everything to my requirements and the finish is very good with gas strut on lid on rubber seals around the inner edges. 2001 TD5 110 County Station Wagon - sold
