2011 Defender 110 Puma 2.4 X-Tech LE Nara Bronze

Slipping screetching sound near gearbox engine side

Having a periodic screetching slipping sound on gearbox, engine side.
Not always there but recently it's more outspoken,
Both when driving or standing still.
Did not test with clutch in yet, as atm it's not there.
Not sure, maybe seeing ghosts, but I think, sometimes in low gear it shakes a bit when putting my foot down somewhat.
So I'm thinking clutch is going...

Don't feel anything particular when driving.

The whole drivetrain has been submerged a few times on saturday when off roading but I think the sound was there already but not so much. It became louder after a 250km/160mile drive home, after parking for a bite to eat in the middle of the trip homewards.

Main question is, can I still drive without making it worse? I think I have to drive approx 1500kms/1000miles until a professional can look at it as the one I want to have a look at it is on vacation atm.

Never mind. Found it: heatshield banging on something when hot enough. Found by pure luck as we had just given up and the sound came up when I was about to leave.
