No pics but i went for 5%. Which is the darkest you get i think. And the kids can see out fine and i can reverse trailers fine....but you cant see in and thats the whole point isnt it...and they look good too.
Are you planning on doing them yourself...i did.....its not easy but the best tip is to template with wrapping paper by taking a rubbing alomost of the shape then transfer that onto lining paper or something similar...then cut out your tint....and after all that....it takes half an hour to peel a corner...and then you get it sprayed.......you lift it up to the window .....and it doubles back on itself rendering it useless!!!!! ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Fabio, you didn't really state whether you were going for replacement or just tinting? It really depends how deep your pockets are. Any decent supplier of window tinting services will have several different colours and depths of tint available, examples of which they themselves would be able to show you for you to decide what colour and depth would be best suited for your scenario.
Pictures in this instance won't really show you much apart from black windows in a Defender as depicted above. I initially had a film tint but the reflection created from the film meant you could no longer see through your rear view mirror (when you looked in the mirror at night you only got a view of what was actually in front of you). A decent tinted glass (not film) like Landyglass or Massai would still give you vision but obviously come at a premium. There are numerous posts on here about the subject and many tint providers state the windows 'have' to be removed to be tinted which is complete rot! Shop around! If you go through life with your head in the sand....all people will see is an ar5e!! Treat every day as if it is your last....one day you will be right!! |

Thank you all for the pictures.
Very nice looking defenders there. I have done a search and have looked at lots of posts. What i wanted to know is how much percentage i should be telling these places i am calling at the moment for quotes. I didn't know that masai did tinted windows. A bit expensive though... Thanks for the info. Fabio |

Some give their figures as a percentage from clear i.e. 90% and others from total blackout i.e. 10% which would equate to being the same in the example I have given. I would suggest to prevent prying eyes those are exactly the figures you would be looking at getting or a variation of about no more than 5% either way.
Jonno's post equates to 95% from clear, Lorryman's 10% from blackout. 95% or 5% dependant on which way you look at it is indeed the darkest you can go ![]() Treat every day as if it is your last....one day you will be right!! |

Legally, you must have 70% light transmission on the front two windows and windscreen - i.e only 30% darker than clear glass. Rear windows, you can go as dark as you like. This is enforced regularly as tinted side windows are a significant cause of collisions, particularly at night. My blog - www.anacreinhampshire.blogspot.co.uk
