Hendra just outside Newquay Cornwall is great for camping, very very clean facilities etc I always look on trip advisor for reviews etc,

A good start is clumber park...not too far away...or cannock chase (north or bham) both camping and caravvan club sites so dead nice. Good for cycling amd walking inc dogs.

Somebody on here recently mentioned a funky smartphone campsite app but I can't recall what it was called.... [Edit : Found it : WikiCamps UK] Just as an aside though, and please don't take this the wrong way but... Before you race off on a two week road trip laden down with all the latest gear, it wouldn't hurt to have a night or two in the back garden and then when you're ready to head out, try somewhere well appointed in reasonably close proximity to home. Gardinia gives you a chance for a bit of a shakedown of all the kit and then worse case if you're out and about and you or wifey decide it's not for you, at least you've not got three hours of 'silence' to endure on the way home. We're not regular campers by a long chalk but found the above approach worked well and confirmed that the ladies of our household are not keen but the boys are all well up for it. My submission would be aim for something not too far away and book last minute when you can be fairly sure the weather is going to be fine.
Camping when the weather is poor can be grim especially if you're just starting out and realise how perhaps don't have the right stuck to cope with poor weather. Have fun Ps not much other than clean wc’s but the camping and caravan site in Wales (rhandirmwyn) is very nice with great pub 5min walk away. |

Most if not all of the camping and caravanning club sites (www.campingandcaravaningclub.com) have good facilities and are in interesting parts of the country. I would recommend joining the club as a good starting point. Choosing the right gear etc, tents, cooking and sleeping facilities is very important, as it can have a significant affect on whether you enjoy or suffer. A defender is limited in available space and weight considerations, so don't over do the "I must take that" Don't expect to get it right first time (site or equipment)

Probably in the wrong direction of where you intend to stay, but if you want to make sure the lady will be in for another camping holiday...
http://www.woodlandsdevilsbridge.co.uk/index.html Why? Because they've just completed the bathroom facilities (or how you may want to call it). Absolutely clean, just don't forget the pincode you need to be able to use the bathroom / toilets. I had a hard time running back to the tent for it in the morning. 
Anyways, by far the cleanest campsite I've visited, ever. |

On our way to Cornwall (90 with roof tent) last year we camped at Cotswold Farm Park (Adam's Farm on Countryfile) . Was a pleasant spot for an overnighter or few days. There is a farm shop, cafe and, as the name suggests, farm visits.
http://www.cotswoldfarmpark.co.uk/camping/ They have electric hook-up. We don't have it for our tent - everything we need runs on 12v. That way we have the pick of smaller quiet sites without hook-ups as well as the larger sites with more facilities. Even when we go away in the caravan we can stay on 12v/Gas for 4-5 days. Keep it simple, don't think you need to have every gadget they sell in Go Outdoors, and enjoy the great outdoors in your Landy! Our blog - http://landytravels.com/

Have a look at woodland springs at whiddon down in dartmoor, it's an adults only campsite that is dog friendly and had won awards for the cleanliness of its shower/toilet block.

Eskdale C&C site in the lakes is the best one I have been to, at the end of the Rhynose/whinlatter pass (sorry about the spelling )
Great facilities, beautiful location, 3 pubs in walking distance and a sensible disrespect for the H&S silliness that affects some sites. Certainly will be going back |
