Chirp chirp, squeak squeak, clunk clunk
Hi all...

My 110 has developed an intermittent squeak, it appears to be coming from near the front driver's side wheel. It is a high pitched squeak, almost like a chirp. It is similar to that high squeaking/chirping sound you hear when watching a WWII film and the tanks roll in, the squeak of the tracks. Confused

I can only hear it when rolling forward fairly slowly, the smoothness of the surface doesn't appear to have any effect. Can't figure out what it is, as there is only one of me and I can't walk alongside the 110 when it is moving Laughing Mrs. Eutek is 6 months pregnant and not in the mood to play "find the noise".

Is there anything in that general area that could produce an intermittent squeak like that? It isn't the brake as far as I can tell - as it happens if I brake or let the 110 roll freely. I'm thinking perhaps the bearing? Years ago a bearing in Mrs. Eutek's Merc went as I was driving around 90 on the motorway, it wasn't fun and I don't want to repeat that!

The other noise is a bit harder to reproduce, it occurs when I turn hard left going around 20 mph or so. It is repeated clunking sound, almost like underneath the middle of the 110. I poked/prodded around and couldn't feel anything loose. Could it be something like the handbrake drum? It doesn't happen really at all during normal driving, just during rather violent turns (not something that I do all that often), just curious....

Thanks!

The repeated clunking when turning could be a cv joint on its way out

Had this with mine recently. I was positive the noise was coming from the front. Turned out to be the rear prop UJ.

Jack the Landy up and check each wheel for play and roughness in the bearings. I'd be tempted to shove a screwdriver between the brake disc and the backplate to see if there's a small stone or Chipping lodged between them I've been called out a few times by relations because they had a noise from the front and found that it was a bloody stone stuck in there. The clunking on full lock could well be the cv joint

I had a very high pitched squeeky squeeky squeek at low speed for ages... usually over 'high frequency' bumps.

I traced it to the bonnet pivots, which are a metal painted pin in a plastic sleeve. Open your bonnet (or take it off) and squirt some lanolin on them or rub on some wax.
