If I stop my 2014 and leave keys in for a few minutes I have to press the unlock button to start again as otherwise immobiliser kicks in. Really annoying. dealer says this is a 2.2 issue but seems recent as a mates 2.2 which is 4 months older doesn't do it. Is this my punishment for having a shiney key fob?

Assuming the puma uses the same 10AS alarm as the Td5, you could get someone with a programmer to turn off the passive immobilisation.

Thanks Jim, good thought.
Steve, I load boat trailers all day and have to switch the engine off because the jockey wheels are always on the exhaust pipe side. It gets old very quickly! |

It is well-known that there are issues with the 10AS immobiliser if the keys are left in the steering lock in the "off" position for any length of time (or indeed left in the vehicle within range of the exciter coil). There will also be issues if two or more key fobs are within range of the coil at the same time.
The simple solution is not to do it (foolish anyway due to the risk of theft, and your insurance almost certainly won't pay out if the keys were in the vehicle when it was stolen), or, as diesel_jim suggests get the passive immobiliser turned off. If you opt for the latter the vehicle is still immobilised when locked with the plip, so provided that you are disciplined with your locking strategy it shouldn't affect the theft risk. |

The latest Defender 2.2 with the new Key Fob does not have a Lucas 10AS. The "working principle" seems to be the same but it is no longer a Lucas 10AS. Not sure about the manufacturer and or part numbers PS: Prior to the introduction of the new key fob, Land Rover had a bulletin (SSM59997) explaining that the EKA code on the later 10AS is now a Hex number that needs to be converted to a decimal number . This was due to the fact that another supplier took over the manufacturing of the 10AS and I suspect that the new manufacturer reengineered the Lucas 10AS and made a "mistake" With the later defender with new Key Fob no Lucas 10AS anymore. You can also not access the Immobiliser with the Lucas 10AS diagnostics tools (Land Rover also indicated that the Old key fob and the new key fob is not interchangeable) Edit: SSM59997 - EKA (Emergency Key Access) code alteration for Defender 2013my 1997 Land Rover Defender 110 HT 2.8i (BMW M52) 2009 Land Rover Defender 110 HT 2.4 TDCi(Puma) Last edited by astoltz on 6th Aug 2014 12:41pm. I asked my dealer to turnoff the Passive Immobiliser, which they did. Drove me around the bend always locking itself. My Defender and travels
