maybe same as VHF ship to shore radio , as far as I know you don't need a liesence to buy but to use it you do

I don't know 100% but for the higher wattage output so longer range ones you may need a liesence to use it
I like I said I really not sure , but did have bit to do with VHF boat radios when we had boats |

I know when cb radio's went to FM there used to be a license in the box your new cb radio was in and you just filled it in and sent it off but i dowt anyone ever did i know i didn't

There is no license fee on a 4 watt UK or European (40/80 channel) FM CB.
More powerful sets are illegal.  |

Illegal to use (if caught - but I suspect the chances are slim if you do not cause interference to anyone)

I have always used a company called Thunderpole for my CB radios and two way radios.
Copied from there help page. http://www.thunderpole.co.uk/cb-radio-guide.html Don't make old people mad. We don't like being old in the first place, so it doesn't take much to  us off.
