Someone else must have this same connector - Mal were you being serious about you having one with an end crimp that you fitted (or just having a laugh? ).

I've had a look through my paper work and lra referred to it on one occasion so I defo didn't imagine it?

Possibly but still can’t find it.....and strange thing is no one else seems to the same connector?????
I'm trying to trace a possible intermittent electrical fault and as the wire had corroded I'd like to check and eliminate this as a possible cause?

was it single wire or double wire?
was it under the plastic flap under the o/s wheel arch ?

It was a single wire in the r/o/s.....it was presumably hanging down from the gap between rear fog and splash guard.....cant remember colour but recall it had a stripe and had a connector similar to plastic cover on speakers wires. I think it was somewhere in between the size of the speaker wire and the purple wire several have used for 12v outlet. ?

was it the unused wire that comes off the trailer loom ( from the plug on main defender loom down to towing socket )

if it was used how would it give you a electrical fault ? unless it was shorting out

also I thought it was running ok now !

Not sure but seems like the most likely option however had tow electrics from factory so I wouldn't have thought so?

A short is exactly what I'm worried about as I'm getting drops in voltage on the clutch switch which is linked into the brake light And Hence my concern?

Def is generally working a treat.....generally - but not always there appears to be just 2 things that aren't quite right....and my the on them is this;

Handbrake binding slightly

Intermittent engine fault / lack of response / clatter due to clutch switch / feed to clutch switch

So very nearly there Thumbs Up

Put voltmeter on it....

Looking to put a direct clean feed to switch which may eliminate this concern but need the time which I'm struggling with at the moment.

but if it's a intermittent fault and caused by voltage drop caused by a shorting wire ( possibly )

if you put a volt meter on the wire was the intermittent fault happening at that time ?

a wire shorting giving a voltage drop would be getting red hot I would say

also a shorting wire to give a intermittent fault would normally only do when driving and wires getting shook about

what was voltage measured on the switch wire ?

I wasn't looking at the meter but I believe it was fluctuating 11-14v....
I've got some male / female connectors enroute for the clutch switch so I can wire up a voltmeter easily by myself...and then wire in the fresh supply (if needed) easily without having to hack into wiring loom.

who was looking at the meter ? did they know that it was wrong

i would be careful running feeds to some things if they ecu controlled !

for example a lot of engine sensors only run at 5 volts regulated by the ecu , the idea is if the battery voltage drops when cranking or a charging fault occurs the sensors still give the right information to the ecu

Munch90 - thanks very much for the heads up on the 5v etc. That is something I need to clarify first and once I'm able to rig the voltmeter up and have a closer look myself not really too sure.

Once done I'll let you know how things are looking.

two things.....

a - I'm pretty sure I found the electrical connector !..... not on my def but saw an old tow electrics harness in a workshop and hey presto ! there's two electrical connectors that would appear to be spare and yes they look just like the one I've been referring to. So the reason I can't find the connector anymore is obviously a result of the tow electrics harness having been replaced !

b - the electrical feed to the clutch switch appears to be running at a nice steady 14.3V and def is running beautifully at the moment. so either the fluctuating voltage was a result of a dodgy multimeter at the time or the intermittent fault has gone away for the moment and hence my motor running beautifully is the result (and / or due to my handbrake 're-build)

so all in all for the moment a very big Mr. Green Thumbs Up
