Being Young is less than ideal
So I'm now 21 so thought that getting insurance for my LR would come cheaper.

Apparently not,

Rang A-Plan today who were incredibly helpful... However the minimum price the people they use will charge is £800 because i'm under 25.
Doesn't matter about my 4 year no claims or zero convictions

Think I'm going to struggle if I want to put my winch on and not pay a fortune.
Is anyone able to provide me with fake age documents so I can get a decent price.
Not happy

Try flux, at 22 with 4 years ncb It cost me 500 living in the centre of Edinburgh, parked on the street. And I could list any mod I liked.

Waldo.....How ironical (see thread link below).....

Bet it was with a company called Markerstudy too. Apparently they 'target drivers under 25.'

and in particular drivers under 25, again which Markerstudy target.

When you go to Flux please make sure you are aware who the insurers are and choose wisely. Thumbs Up If you go through life with your head in the sand....all people will see is an ar5e!!

I had my VW Transporter insured with Markerstudy with all mods declared etc. They were great to deal with and a good price........until my house was broken into and van stolen. They became difficult to deal with and if anything added to the stress by taking 9 months ish to pay out.

Not accompany where I would spend my money again. Sad Strong people are harder to kill and generally more useful!

Good luck Waldo..... Thumbs Up

Youth, thankfully sometimes, is not an affliction I am acquainted with anymore. But I do sympathise with a 19 and 23 year old.

Adrian Flux came back with £580 which i'm impressed with, best quote from anyone so far.

Only problem is I'm towing a trailer to France at the end of the summer and the other person who is towing isn't 21.... and they are not willing to insure her even for a week because of this.

Going to keep digging.

17 - 21 I can understand to a degree but 25 is frankly ridiculous. By which time you could have an 8 yr NCB which is a lot more than many twice that age on the road and they still get it cheaper.
Some even with speeding offences points etc and such like.
And they wonder why young people find it difficult to work... Rolling Eyes
NFU won't even have anyone under 25, one could say that is discrimination...
Imagine if you just turn 60 and your insurance said we won't insure you your now too old. I don't think that would be acceptable in their or my book personally.
Doing this to younger drivers is just the reverse discrimination.
All just because a minority won't behave themselves.

The insurance industry in this country is a joke and desperately needs overhauling.

They have far too much power to wiggle out from any claim but charge you through the nose for any reason.

If it is the law to have a minimum of 3rd party insurance why doesn't the government provide cheep affordable 3rd party only insurance which everyone can afford and get so they can get some form of no claims and undercut all the insurers. I bet they would make a fortune from it!

Whilst Adrian Flux were cheaper (I'm 25 now, and driven LR's since getting driving license in 2008), I found their customer services pretty unhelpful, and the terms and conditions sometimes dubious, and the credit agreement for me at least had an insulting level of interest.

I switched back to NFU, which I admit are a bit more expensive, but have been very helpful, and surprisingly understanding of mods. The local nature of their service is also favourable, to me at least, as the Huntingdon NFU office manager owns and drives a Defender himself. 1998 110 300Tdi White Hard Top
