Hi all,
just added some photos to the gallery of our 110 TDCI just after fitting all the Dormobile kit last year - more photos to come soon! Just looking through the photos posted and there are some fab conversions on show! Just proves what a versitile thing a defender is ! happy camping! very nice, that sink/cooker unit is very neet, just one question, what are the beds like to sleep on ?

Glad you like them ... more to follow when we get back from europe next month. no pop top - we have lots of junk we carry on the roof such as 22' racing canoes, surfboards, Bikes ,garden waste and the like... so the roof rack is more useful than a pop roof at the moment..(and cheeper!) Curtains - ahh well the leopard print is now gone and replaced with classic black with matching sheets and pillows. very chic.. (and dont show the dirt!) the waggon had black tinted windows so the curtains match very well. the leopard ones were first used in out TD5 which was Red - so looked very funky 
Beds are very good - my partner says she has a better nights kip in the waggon than at home.. the drivers side has the wheel above the feet to get used to, but that only took a couple of mins. Like all campers it's getting the right positon (ie flat and level) helps sleeping. as the seat pan is adjustable it is easy to get the bed flat (and reach the boxes under them as well)
The seats are a bit wider than the normal ones, are very comforable, have a large seat pocket, totaly recline, fit straight onto the normal landrover base, but not cheap! We sleep in the waggon about 2 or 3 nights a month, going down to S cornwall and other areas in the country. I kind of workerd out the cost for the total conversion came to £4500, so at hotel prices of £50 per night meant 90 nights use would pay for it - so far we have used it about 70 nights, not including making hot drinks and meals when on trips rather than pay service station prices - so we should be about even after our next trip!

Hi Warpig,
its a Khyam porch awning which is made as a caravan door porch but is just right for covering the back door and leaving space for a couple of chairs anda table inside it's cheep as chips to buy (about £100 new but I bought this off a member on another forum  ) it goes up like an umbrella with all the polls prefitted - supposed to be less than 30 seconds when you have the knack...
The colour matches our waggon really well.
It opens on all 3 sides has large mozzy nettingand windows on all sides fitted - all the sides can be removed and be used as a simple sun shade or a full awning, but needs to lean on the waggon for support. I've added some long bungies from the roofrack to the lashing point to tie the sides to that work very well. I'll post some photos of it in my gallery. Very nice Wyvern. Did you have any insurance issues with the conversion or would that only be a problem with any structural work involved in fitting an elevated roof?

Hi CannonBall,
I told my insurance company (NFU) about all the fittings etc and they asked for an engineers report to say that the kit was fitted properly (seats, seatbelts & gas mainly), which satisfied them and the preimum has not been effected.
I explined that before we did the conversion we slept on a wooden board not secured to the vehicle and were using a trangier meths stove in the back of the waggon for cooking that was a tad more dangerous than what we have now - but didn't require us to inform them as these were not modifications... 
I think with the roof mods there will be no real issues either as the poptop is made to fit the waggon, and is very strong. The insurance company said that any mods made to a vehicle should be reported to them as it may effect the cover - including wheels, lights and suspension ... which we've all done havent we... Thanks for posting the photos.
The awning is a great idea. Is it free standing without the landy, or does it depend on the landy for support? |

Hi WarPig,
both awnings are supported by the waggon - the Kaytem (Gray one) only leans on the rear of the roofrack, but the Brownchurch one (green one) is attached all along the side of the roofrack. Both are held in place with elastic bungies down the sides of the waggon. We had an auto-home tent that was free standing, built to go over the back door of the waggon - it was good at the time, but it was nearly big enough to put the whole 110 in and took a little while to erect ... The set up we have now is versitle and quick - so great for us. Happy camping!
