That is impressive but how much is it costing the country to have a bunch of lycralists ruling the roads and being supported by the Bizzies to pretty much what they usually get away with anyway.......... All over the road, big groups, no hand signals, blasting through red lights, the list goes on and on.

Do they?

When I was working I had my day off cancelled and re rostered for a middle night shift. Normal working day, not overtime. This was and still is common place throughout most forces so my friends tell me. Don't make old people mad.
We don't like being old in the first place,
so it doesn't take much to Censored us off.

Well...the maths (Can you tell I'm bored at work on a wet Friday afternoon?)

If we say that an average PC is on about £13 an hour (with a few years service)...

I counted 41 officers in total (allowing for 2 in both cars)

Say it all takes what, 4 hours maybe from start to end?

then it would cost the taxpayer... £2132 in labour. If it took a whole 8 hour shift then maybe £4264.

The fuel on the bikes, say at 50mpg, on a 60 mile journey would cost £7.20 each, so around £266 in total.

The fuel on the BMW's would say cost around £7.44 each, or £14.88 in total.

So in total, at a rough estimate, around about £2413,88 for wages and running costs.

The publicity is has no-doubt created = priceless Mr. Green

The budget for Tour de France is £27 million. It is estimated that the event will bring in around £100k to the Yorkshire economy, a proportion of which will make it back into the public coffers via tax. Seems a fair enough to me.

Our little town has already seen quite an increase in visitors over the last week - most of them spending money in local businesses. The vibe in town is very positive and that can only be a good thing.

We have a lot of road closures in our area, and there are some moaners, but overall most people seem to be embracing the event as a good thing. Thumbs Up Our blog - http://landytravels.com/
