Thank god it`s out of warranty
As the title suggests the car is now three years and 4 days old.

So far it`s been nothing but stress, the gearbox has been out five times, replaced once, two clutches, corrosion repairs ect.
I had no idea that owning a new car would have been so much trouble.
(I knew it had problems when I brought it) Never expected this. The lack of quality is shocking
I`ve always carried out all my own repairs, bodywork, ect. I never guessed the stress involved in,
1. Getting the garage / dealer to understand the nature of the fault.
2. Getting them to fix right first time, the damage they cause to it while fixing it.
3. Finding a dealer who can actually fix it, Marshal Melton have a very good bodyshop and workshop, wish I had gone there first, we live and learn.

So all in all. The 8 or 9 months of ownership it`s been in the dealer for 10 weeks and I`ve managed to put 1,500 miles on it.
With a bit of luck all the trouble will have been worth it and I can now enjoy my new car. At last !!
On the up side now all the bad bits and rusty bits have been sorted it now looks brand new.
It`s had a full service by me so I know it`s been done correctly, ALL the fluids changed, An MOT.
We have even had the chance to use it for what it was brought for, going to the auctions, collecting loads of books, going to the tip, towing. All the normal things you do I even hope to have time to wash and polish it this weekend.
I`ve done the air box mod, it`s made a difference to it`s mid range power so proper one to be ordered.

What I need now is for the car to in still the confidence I had in a 13 year old Vauxhall Vectra, which was more of a friend than a car, you knew when you got in it, started it up, it would take you to the ends of the earth and back, without checking it`s oil level / leaks first. In fact I drove round in it for three years up and down the country with no brake down cover, I thought she had seen to it and she thought I had seen to it. But it never missed a beat.

In summing up as I`ve been on the other side of the workshop wall all my working life, Land rover need to do a lot to improve there vehicles, customer service, the way there dealers treat there customers, in this day and age it should not happen. my workmates have followed the whole story in disbelief, they can not understand how and why it takes this length of time to repair one car. It`s become a running joke both at work and at home, what loan car will we have this week ! Excuse the spelling I`am better with spanners and wires.

That makes it sound as though you are on a mission to rid the world of books! Rolling with laughter

I have always found that it is more stressful trying to get someone else to do the correct work to the right standard on you car than doing it yourself, and I sympathise with people who are dependent upon others in this respect.

Good luck with the vehicle!

Agree/\/\/\DIY as much as you can.Bought mine off a dealer he dropped the price coz I didn't want a warranty (bought it at trade price thru a mates garage).Even now, after all the work I've had to do Rolling Eyes I'm still glad I didn't have a warranty, I wouldn't wanted them to "fix" anything. Pov.spec,ftw. 2006, 110,TD5.

Warranty work hmm!

I personally know that one main dealer in the NW farms parts of their work out to a local independent Land Rover garage.

What you see at the main dealers, pristine work environment, more like an operating theatre than a garage and with loads of competence certificates showing all the training that the dealership mechanic's have gone through, is not necessarily what you get, the vehicle may be repaired around the corner in a garage that is under the arches and with not so competent and trained mechanics.

Much of the "genuine Bavarian" asparagus is actually imported from Poland. Tell someone you love them today because life is short.
But shout it at them in German because life is also terrifying and confusing...

Afternoon all,

I intend to get a K&N cone filter, overtime willing. Along with some cold air induction piping, a few elbow joints etc.
On inspecting the mass air flow meter it looks like it will need a bit of work so it will fit into it`s new filter, out with the cutter again.

As for dealer/garage service.
I have the upmost sympathy with anyone who has to rely on them exclusively for there maintenance. God help them and there pocket !!
I`ve seen some right cowboys out there over the years.

As for books and auctions,
I was after some kit a few years ago and came across a local auction house in Leicester, that was having a midweek sale of tools and workshop equipment.
I did quite well that day got a few bits covered my costs and made a small profit.
Well there`s where it all went side ways, my wife is an avid reader of anything.
She asked me what it was like, so i gave her the catalog to look over "OOOOOHH BOOKS !!!!"
Well the next sale was Saturday morning she was like a kid on Christmas morning.
We were outside the place before the doors opened, she got every lot of books that day i made three trips there and back to collect her stuff, i did`ent bid on anything.
So here we are three years and 2500 books later yes we`ve got over 2500 books hidden around the house.
She`s done well out of it made a nice second income out of it, she`s even started paying tax on her earnings.
Me however i`am just the bidder, (she won`t put her hand up to bid ) porter , disposal operative, and general dogs body !
I know my place.....

As for anyone with a problem lets hope we can carry on helping each other out Excuse the spelling I`am better with spanners and wires.

BAS tested the so called "performance" air filters and quickly shot down their claims.

Ah yes thank you I remember reading that post now, a power curve graph can`t lie so what do I do with £ 75.00 ebay list price.

I think I will make a secondary air intake at the front of the air box so it can pull in cold air, as right now it can pull in hot air from the cooling fan.

Thanks again. Excuse the spelling I`am better with spanners and wires.
