Well I finally got round to removing the egr and fitting an alive blanking kit. My verdict? I SHOULD HAVE DONE IT SOONER, PERIOD. Acceleration is more refined, smoother. I'm well pleased Thumbs Up picture of my egr.awful

Now imagine what state you intercooler, hoses and inlet manifold are in.

Exhaust gases shouldn't go through the intercooler. Roel

True, but that oily gunk has come from the crankcase breather not the exhaust.

It is highly likely that the turbo, intercooler, and MAF and MAP sensors are generously coated in the same stuff.

Just done mine along with dumping the centre exhaust box and first impressions are more lively and smoother. Its still not overly noisy which I was worried about Wink

One of the best mods you can do. Clean the boost pressure sensor at the same time

You can always stick a filter in the crankcase breather line. Thumbs Up

Just do a search under 'Provent'.... Thumbs Up If you go through life with your head in the sand....all people will see is an ar5e!!

Treat every day as if it is your last....one day you will be right!!

According to a chap I know who works for Cummins Diesel in R and D told me EGR gasses are actually slightly corrosive.

That's enough evidence to get shot for me!

I took the EGR and cat off my TD5 when I had one and it made the engine run more smoothly with a couple of MPG in my favour!

Removing the EGR is not enough, on td5 you will need a filter on the crankcase like Provent 200, otherwise you still get the oily vapor allthourgh the air inlet circuit.

I did it and I very satisfied, no oil vapor deposits on the tubes or intercooler, you can see pic on my blog if you want

Does the Provent allow it to run cleaner? Will it help exhaust smoking and emissions? I've seen them mentioned but don't know too much about them

What i can confirm to you Lambley is that the circuit is in fact clean now no oil deposits on the tubes from the Turbo to the intercooler , the intercooler itself is clean and finally from Intercooler to Air Inlet manifold.

The provent infact retains these vapors to a very high degree, i purge the filter every 5000-10000 km and you can see liquid oil draining filling a cup.

There is no mistake that those vapors are going to air inlet manifold and together with recirculating gases from EGR would actually be slowly killing your engine performance(i found black thick TAR like in the inlet) in the combustion chamber.

I dont think the filter does anything on emissions or black smoke. Happy Travel
