TD5 Fuel pump faulty, groaning noise??
Have just replaced the clutch in my 2000 90 taking the gearbox and transfer case out also replaced offside outrigger and did a fair bit of welding to the chassis.

While i was there i also put a new fuel pressure regulator in.

Reconnected the battery today and tried to start it, when first turned on the pump whirred as normal, but then went quiet, it now groans for a couple of seconds and you can hear fuel running, but it wont start. Popped the connectors of the regulator and there was nothing there, seem to remember there being a dribble when i first changed it. Does this sound like pump failure or air in the system?

Done the auto bleed a few times and it just makes the same noise, no whirring noise like it used to.

Cheers
Stu

Could be that the air that was introduced into the pipes when you changed the regulator, was enough to push the pump over the edge. Sounds like it might have been on its last legs anyway?

I know it may be teaching your grandmother to suck eggs but, seeing as you have done some work to it therefore it's been standing around are you certain that the immobiliser hasn't kicked in or the inertia switch under the bonnet on the bulkhead hasn't been knocked.
What you could try is on the top of the fuel filter housing take out(if fitted) the air bleed valve from inside the brass tail that screws in to the housing. It is the front left as you look at the filter from the side(If you were to look down on it it would be the OSR)
