The DC100 was (I'm told by a service engineer at main dealer) built onto the old range rover sport chassis (which was a discovery chassis tweeked a bit) with the rear end cut off so I can see the Defender replacement using some kind of combination of the 2.

My own oppinion is that Land Rover are looking more towards getting into Chinese markets and building further on Eastern and American markets, amining squarely at the "big money" rollers than the sheep farmers. they are not interested in Military contracts or Utility contracts, they want plush big money short life cars which go out of fashion quickly when a new model comes out so they can sell you lots of lovely finance.

The sad inevitability is that the modern Defender replacement is never going to be as good or as capable as the current model. This will be fact. Yes it may have woopdy do dah electronics that can sense exactly how much grip you have on each sq inch of the tyers and use clever braking and diff and gearbox and engine computers to regulate this power. But we have all see the videos of Range Rovers and Discoverys with exactly this technology getting stuck in a slightly damp field because the computers don't know how to handle the information and there is no manual override, consequently it will not be as capable as a defender you can stick in diff lock and crawl out on tick over.

I won't be ordering a DC100, but I will however keep bringing my 200Tdi to the dealership because every time I do everyone who walks past it says that it is a proper land rover. And someone needs to remind them that!

Just popped over to the range rover sport forum following the link in this thread and they seem to have been a bit offended in that thread, would appear they cant take a bit of stick.
Maybe its because they have an inferiority complex about not driving real land rovers or range rovers Whistle Defender puma dormobile camper

Same old, same old. I've said it before and I'll say it again, until Land Rover unveil the final design to the great unwashed other than what has been shown of the the DC100 there is little in the way of material substance to go on.

Isn't the point of concepts to get discussion going? Besides, we have now been told that the unit being demoed more publicly is close to the DC100.

(And no, I don't honestly believe this was a 'mole', as some have claimed)

Sure nothing wrong with discussion but better still to have one that isn't based on the kind of smoke and mirror non information that started this thread. Even better if said discussion contained some new observations and not the same kind of thing that has already been said over and over again in this section. Steve.

People are basically tribal in nature and it's the same with regard to online forums. Steve.

The thing is the original post(s) told us nothing at all. It wouldn't have been so bad if the one question "what did it look like" had been answered. Even just "yes it looks like the DC100" or "No it doesn't like the DC100" would have been sufficient.

But to say it looks like the one in the photos is just meaningless, which photos? There have been several mock-up "New Defenders" from various sources. Some good, some crap. Personally I wouldn't want to own a car that looks like a DC100.

I think in general there is no opposition to more refinement and tech levels in the new model, but you have to ask just why the styling has to be so radically different? 2011 110 USW

Like I said, no-one told us anything, because in reality, how could they, because they knew nothing either. Whatever they "saw", I would suggest, gave them no real FACTS at all. IMHO, the two guys were trying to "stir" us?

^^ Pickles, when you read the thread that one of these two gentlemen (jim4244) subsequently started on the RRS forum, it looks like he is the one that got pretty "stirred up" about this all...

Ha ha ha, Well, I did not (see my posts this tread) "take the bait", I ain't that smart either, but I always knew that there was NO WAY Landrover, or any other manufacturer for that matter, was going to give away ANYTHING in an ėvent"such as these guys attended.

With the diversity of people on this defender based forum, is it just me that finds it strange that the two people who have seen the new defender have recently joined and seem to be very coy on details? Maybe I'm just being too suspicious in thinking its Landrover trying to butter us up Whistle

Laughing It wouldn't be the first time that relevant forums have been infiltrated, sounded out and "guided" in their thinking by concerned commercial interests.

Can't see that approach working very well here though..... too many people who know their own mind. Thumbs Up
