Towing electrics cable loom
Gents

Just bought this, N-type tow electrics [PN YWJ101500] but have a question.

As you can see some masking tape is strapping a couple of additional plugs to the main cable. These have a grey wire and green/brown wire.

The green/brown wire is connected to the grey socket end but not the towing socket end and conversely the grey wire is wired to the towing end but not the grey socket.

Can anyone tell me what they are for ?

Thanks
Gavin

Yes, they are provided to allow the subsequent fitment of a 12S socket without modifying any harnesses. For a 12N you don't need to do anything with them.

Thanks Blackwolf

I am still a little confused as I have just googled pin outs for 12S and can't see where they use those colours of wire. Am I missing something ?

Cheers

Hi Waldo

I got it from Island 4x4. Seems good quality and well put together.

http://www.island-4x4.co.uk/electrics-ntyp...-7340.html

Base price, which is also marked as a web special is £29.99 - but add delivery (£5) and VAT brings you to £41.99. Though if you are buying a few things delivery is free if you spend over £50

Cheers
Gavin

the wire maybe a reverse light feed to the 12s socket as the 12n doesn't have reverse light terminal

Does that mean from this point you can wire up a 12S socket as well, without having to take wire beyond this loom? I didn't think there was a permanent live direct-to-battery connection in there?

Think I've missed the point. 2009 110 XS Station Wagon

I'm sure that somewhere on this forum there's a link to the installation instructions for the 12S (which I don't have to hand), but I am sure that there is a hook-up to the additional external connectors on the 12N part you have, I think for a non-switched live and the reversing light.

The 12S genuine kit is much more involved to fit than the 12N since it entails running an ingition-switched supply from the battery box and includes fitting an ignition-controlled relay wired from a feed in the dash, as well as the connections to the back end. If you can find the instruction sheet all will become clear.

The fitting instructions for the 12S socket are available free and without registering if you visit Landrover's TOPIX website at www.landrovertechinfo.com

How's your socket holding up?

Mine arrived today and I was surprised to see it's Britpart OEM.

I know OEM should be better than Britparts standard stuff but I tend to steer clear of them. Defender 90 XS TD5 (03 Reg)
