Excellent looking project! I am particularly interested in this as I shall soon be acquiring a silver td5 90 csw and would be looking into sound proofing.

Did yours come with carpets in the rear to begin with? If so when it was removed was it reusable or does the adhesive land rover apply ruin it when it is pulled up ? Additionally after applying dynamat and dynaliner could the same original carpets be placed back down on top of this soundproofing without issues?

Cheers! Look forward to seeing more pics.

Great job, well done. It looks like you've got a good eye for detail which is nice to see. I hope you don't mind me asking but roughly how much was the soundproofing alone, and how much did you need to do the job? I've done a similar job with a Noise Killer kit on my 90 H/T, which definitely helps, but I bet it's not in your league for sound deadening.

Hi Lambley,

I'll try and search out the invoices in the next day or so, so I can get you a definitive approx of materials. Thanks for the compliment too.

Hey Freypal,

My carpets could of been refitted, the land rover glue wasn't too bad at all - I still have the set which I do need to move on. With the two Dynamat products I'd say carpets being refitted would be fine. The reason we elected for rubber was partly functional, partly utilitarian style, partly the merits of sound deadening. In hindsight I think we should of opted for a utility 90, as literally we paid a premium for a very clean CSW and then replaced or changed everything aside from the dash inside... But as everyone knows on here Defender plans evolve very quickly.

Hi Matt,

Praise is beyond deserved to you guys and thanks for the kind words on the truck. Got something new I'd like to show you too.

You still doing the breakfast meet at yours soon? If so let me know and I'll try and coax Mr. Timberlake along too in one of his fleet.

Nath

Unfortunately had to postpone the Breakfast meet as we've landed a huge order and all leave is currently cancelled Sad

I'll let you know when we reschedule, but we'll be at Billing and Peterborough and fingers crossed we'll be unveiling the FCX 90 Rolling Eyes

Freypal, pleasure and when you come to do it just let me know if you have any questions. More than happy to offer advice for, what it is worth. The one tuning I would say is invest the time prepping it - clean thoroughly and use some kind of spirit wipes to make sure the surface is perfect for the Dynamat's bitumen to bond onto. Once you lay the first panel you'll be amazed at the results - no resonance - and that will spur you on!

Very kind! Thanks for the offer. One other thing actually from what you've said... Once down is the dynamat going to be a nightmare to vet rid of if needed? Ie the bitumen leaving impossible to shift sticky residue etc?

cheers!

Hi Freypal,

Yep it's very difficult to remove, so planning is needed as once it's on it becomes more attached to the Defender than it's owner!!

Apologies for the absence but I've been a busy boy of late... however it did give me the opportunity to recap on a few other pic sources we had of the build between my brother, father and I. So without further ado here's a few more of some of the items in the spray shop, including light guards, mirror caps, KBX items, steering guard, aircon surround, bonnet hinges, bonnet and so forth...

Another area that required extensive and careful body repair was the wonky holes we inherited from the previous light guards. As a previous post showed we (scarily) taught ourselves the art of aluminium welding which delivered superb results. However I was nigh on paranoid that the body shop take extra care on the light panel fascias as these would be immensely visible if they weren't perfect. In the end we elected to go the whole hog and refinish the wings as well as the light panel fascias.
