Is this noise normal
Not sure i want the answer any way Rolling Eyes as ive almost had enough.

New clutch was fitted around a year ago - possibly a little less.

My question - this is reverse gear at low speed (around 5mph) low rpm, little throttle input at or just above tickover, on flat level tarmac surface, engine warm after 40 minutes drive - is this noise normal?

The point is, Im sure didnt used to do it and is doing it more often - the more the new clutch beds with miles it has started - they (dealers) think its ok (like everything else Evil or Very Mad )

Welcome thoughts Bow down Mike

Mike do you mean that sort of fluttery noise in the first 1/3 of your clip? I would describe it best as though someone were running two sheets of rolled up news paper very lightly along a railing Confused It's almost undetectable.

Personally i would probably be annoyed by this if i didn't think it was there before. I know how you feel though about noises. Sometimes i question myself and ask whether the car makes me paranoid or whether i know my car so well i can pick out the slightest change in noise.

It sounds to me as though the car is just rumbling at the lowest revs possible and that rumbling is all it is. It doesn't sound like grating or whining which, to me, are the noises that need attention.

How is it in other gears? How is reversing in low range?

Personally i would not worry too much. How much warranty do you have left? Are you extending?

about 5 months warrant lefty - I havent decided if im extending - but probably not, as i need to move away from dealers.

It does it when worked, in low or 1st/R at low speeds - Its more the fact that it didnt do it that gets me - but i think like you im getting more paranoid...with new noises in areas of known issues. Im happy to leave it, but i would rather them fix it than me Exclamation

I sometimes cant help but feeling fobbed off to get it outside of warranty and when it does go in for legitimate work (which they get paid for) you come out with more faults - which is wrong. Mike

definitely the clutch.
Mine did the same - got worse over time.
If you want to hear it better, find a steep hill/bump and stick it in 2'nd low range and idle up foot off throttle and it will accentuate the rattle.

I also have had one clutch done - the second one has sorted that exact noise and my first clutch was also done 1 year ago.

4 months might be just enough time for it to get as bad as mine did.
Mine also only started making the noise after many hours driving in the bush with soft sand but evetually did it all the time - even in high range.
The guy who heard mine about 6 months ago admitted that it was the start of the clutch failing but said there was nothing they could do as a new clutch plate had already been fitted.
When it go really bad I insisted and then they found the revised clutch seemed to have been revised again and say the new one is now even better.
Not sure I should believe them but the noise is definatly gone.

Sounds a similar story

Ive just emailed the service manager - including the video.

The problem is i dont do enough miles in it to highlight these faults Mike

did you guys get the clutch done under warranty/good will as i guess a clutch is not covered as its a consumbale?

mine has just started to make that noise when cold in low 1st or rev under a slight load no accelerator - ie slight incline on antistall.

mine is not the antistal making the noise. Cheers

definately warenty item - look at the old plate and then the new - insist on this as you should see how it has been revised.

Definately a warranty item the clutch - i think the accepted life expectancy of a clutch is either 50000 or 100000 but either way a clutch is actually not a consumable Mike

Well, mine is on it's 3rd clutch (2 Ford spec and now the LR spec clucth) and it still makes a bit of a rattle like the above mp4 attachment, but NOTHING as bad as the old Ford spec clutches did.

My question though - i'm almost out of warranty on my vehicle (73 000km, 2 years and 6 months) - will the clutch carry it's "own" warranty if it breaks before the accepted 50 000km, but after the standard vehicle warranty expires??

Any warranty part fitted has the warranty period or you can usually get 12 months so if your part was fitted at 2yr 364days of manufacturer warranty you would have 12 months of warranty for the part on top. Mike
