French diesel
Off to France next week for 2 weeks. I just wondered if anyone has advice on French diesel quality - for instance is cheap Carrefour stuff OK or if not what should I be looking for ? Thanks

Here is your answer. From someone who used the first few years mainly French supermarket crap, and then has seen the light and never turned back...

By the way, you will see that BP is not available across the border in France, but I am talking within reasonable distance from Geneva here. A bit further away from us, BP is reasonably well represented in France. You never actually own a Defender. You merely look after it for the next generation.

It's France, no different to the UK. The quality will be the same wherever you go however if you venture into the villages/towns your wallet will appreciate it. Fuel prices on motorways are very expensive in comparison.

I have used the supermarket fuel now and again on my trips to France and Portugal !
Never had a problem with the defenders or the disco 3. I haven't tried with the puma but can't see it being any different...

This is contrary to Italy, where the price of diesel in the villages is higher than on motorways. Shocked Cheers, Vincent

French fuel is absolute rubbish… every hundred metres (sorry, yards) one sees diesel trucks and cars abandoned at the side of the road or on breakdown trucks on the way to a workshop to have their engines replaced.

JLR, of course, never thought to test their vehicles to destruction using fuel of the poor quality that you might find in Africa or South America, so when you dare to take your precious baby over the Channel I’m afraid its engine will blow up within a couple of kilometres from your first fill-up.

Peter (returned to the UK on Monday after a six-week/3,000 mile holiday in France, everything from €1.46/litre French motorway diesel to €1.35/supermarket stuff to €1.19/litre Luxembourg prices, believe it or not with no ill effects)
