Another Alloy wheel question
Is there a difference in QUALITY in the genuine Land Rover boost alloy wheels and the boost alloys sold by Paddocks and Craddocks et al? 1982 88" 2.25 diesel

'Approval through rigorous testing' I think. Wheels that are advertised as 'style' are cheaper as they haven't been through the testing and approval procedure. Someone in the know may correct me.

You invariably get what you pay for. Me with mild OCD would go OEM to be sure. Thumbs Up

***EDIT***

Not alloys but as an example from another thread........

I bought a set of genuine Wolf rims from Craddocks (actually a set of BFG AT's on black Wolf rims). After doing some research they seemed like an OK deal.

However, be aware, they do sell "look a like" versions which are cheaper, so make sure you specify exactly what you want. Even though I specified and paid the premium for Wolf, what was delivered were the cheaper versions. It was pretty obvious, the cheaper ones don't have the right stamps on them (I was after ANR4583PM) and, when I ran my hand around the inner rim there was a noticiable indent (joining seam?) which is not on the Wolf rims.

Anyway, I phoned them up and, to their credit worked out from their end that I had been sent the wrong ones and corrected it pretty quickly. The replacements arrived on a pallet and were padded out with box's that I think the rims had come to them in - looked like Land Rover OEM, so black Wolf rims from the factory!

I guess you can get cheaper by looking at surplus places, but this was for a new Landy and I wanted to get something that looked smart and had a known history.

How much for peace of mind eh? Go original. They come up on here very often in the 'for sale and wanted' anyway.

Good luck Spudfan me old mucker. I'd let the dust settle after the panel beater quip and go into your 'nothing box' for a few hours.

Hello Mrs S,

I'm surprised this link when posted didn't get any further comments. It certainly enlightened me, my other half and my daughter and gave us a good chuckle to boot.

Let him get his wheels and then feed him salad......

Cold shoulder and hot tongue. Laughing

He'll retreat into his nothing box and you can buy or ask for whatever you wish safe in the knowledge he loves you and will grant your request. Thumbs Up Cool

Eric, that was one of the best posts/finds in ages.......

A bit Off Topic but worthy of mention, sorry Spudfan......

Since watching it I've been announcing what box I'm going to get out and when I intend popping into my 'nothing box!' It was indeed so very factual it was uncanny to say the least.

Folks

Please be very careful with "look a like" wheels.

The pictures below show what can happen to imitation wheels. These 20" stormers were fitted to a discovery three and had all the correct weight loads etc. One failed completely whilst driving and luckily no one was hurt. I am not convinced the out come would have been as good if they had been on one of the defenders

The other three wheels also showed cracks where the first failed.

.

On looking into the issue these were sold by a "reputable" company as original spec. Once you look closer they have a much smaller shoulder than landrover originals.

I am not saying paddocks or craddocks sell these but just be aware and careful of copies.

Ten years ago I bought a set of Freestyle look alike's from Craddocks because the Defender I owned then did not accommodate genuine alloys, something about the hubs. I still own the 1985 land Rover that is now used as a workhorse and over the years has had some very rough treatment on one occasion I overshot a jetty and dropped six foot to the ground, It broke the front propshaft but the wheels were undamaged Shocked

The Freestyle look alike's still look good, where as the alloys on my three years old Defender are not faring so well they scratch easy and have lost there sheen.

I am not saying that all Land Rover alloy copies are good, but the ones I purchased from Craddocks have stood the test of time.
