I'll throw this in even though the problem is already solved incase anyone else is in the same situation (or like me drunkenly decides their car needs MUD in the number plate lettering) - the ideal household item for removing number plates is dental floss - wind it around your fingers and work it between the number plate and the car in a sawing action, and they'll soon be off. Finish off with some halfords bug and tar remover to get rid of the residue and you're done.

So,
In UK the plates there have its own glue to be put in the car? Happens that also in other EU countries or is just in UK? Here we must to screw or rivet it, similar than you dm. I'd expect warmer climates wouldn't get away with glue as it would get warm and drop the plates

On my D3 the rear plate was glued on, but on my Camel and 2003 90 they were screwed on. Roel

I'm guessing the Camel's were bolted on behind recovery eyes and Jate rings

My Dutch front license plate was indeed placed behind as much as possible steel
![]() That worked very good after off-roading. Most of the time there was plenty off sand before the license plate, that saved me some tickets. ![]() The UK license plate was a sticker on the bonnet. ![]() Click image to enlarge Roel 1984 90 2.5 na Diesel - RR V8 (1994-2001) 1997 Camel Trophy Discovery 300TDI (2001-2009) 2005 G4 Discovery III 4.4 V8 (2008-2018) It's gone but it still hurts. 2003 90 Td5 (2009-now) |
