Its based at Doncaster/Sheffield just down the road, your always welcome up here Barry to come for hanger tour during the winter months when its maintenance program is running. I might even let you have the p2 seat in the FR150 and fly over the
Ladybower Dams 617 style
Don't think she will fly next year, another british icon gone in 2015 but not forgotten

I took the kids to Manstonair show last year just to see this.
It was always the highlight of air shows when I was a kid. One of the few times when the childrens' use of the word "awesome" was correct. |

If anybody's thinking "yeah..yawn so what old plane" turn up the volume and check this out then watch again but keep your eye on the sheep...full volume is the only way to go on this one |

Although I'm of an age when seeing Vulcans, Victors etc flying over was a day to day occurrence. Steve.
Owned numerous Land Rover vehicles of all shapes and sizes over the decades. Current Defender: A non tarts hand-bagged Puma 110 XS USW. XH558 is due to fly to the north of me on Sunday, weather permitting it will be at Welshpool Air Show along with a few other interesting planes.

Plan at the moment is that because of the wing mods carried out over the winter she should be good for another couple of years, so 2014 and 2015. Obviously subject to enough cash. There biggest issue now is engines, so if anyone has a spare Olympus Engine for a Vulcan kicking around in the shed then let them know. Mrs Dave and I were up there a few weeks ago. There is also XM655 at Wellesborune Airfield for anyone in the midlands who would like to have a look at a Vulcan. Wow it is the same one I used to see at Bruntingthorpe every year ! A company I used to work for held annual exhibitions there and although its 10 years since I've been I remember being amazed at the vision and tenacity of the restorers - one hell of a complex project - and I chipped in a few quid towards the restoration each time

I took a hanger tour a few years back, got talking to Taff the chief engineer. He said he found a relay in the wing part of the anti icing system that was from the fifties! Probably not on the shelf at maplin.
Hard to image that theres only about seven years between the V force bombers and the string bag lancaster! GB ruled the world of aviation in the fifties, and there was nothing to even come close. A brief moment in time were british engineering was second to none! Thanks for the support lads |

My first time seeming it fly was from JE Engineerings workshop in Coventry..
I think that VTTS have done a great job but I believe that the onl viable long term way of keeping this flying (and getting other important planes in the air, such as the Mosquito) is for the RAF to get involved. My controversial idea is to replace the Battle of Britain flight with something with a wider remit. It would be concerns lay cheaper without the civil issues. www.td5.org |

Dont think id like to see the BBMF go in favour of other aircraft although i do take your point. The aircraft the BBMF fly have massive historical significance to this counrty and the reason germany didnt invade.
one fact that most folk dont know is that the BBMF will do free flypasts for events proving their enroute to displays etc, they overflew our village feit the last few years, Hurrincane and Dakota! I was told the CAA or campain against avivation, cash always acceppted and other Synonyms give the vulcan so many points at the start of each flying year. Everytime she flys points are deducted to gain more points work has to be carried out. One of the wing spars is need of replacement this involves removing the wing which has massive cost implications, so next year may be the last time to see her fly and hear the famous "vulcan Howl" so get out this with the youngsters before shes gone forever.
