trying to make it last....
So I’m not 100% sure I haven’t got an intermittent fault on the engine / electrics..... Regardless of if there’s a problem or not I’ve decided I want to keep this vehicle and get at least 150k miles on the clock (far more than I’ve ever done before – double). I think we’ll all agree 150k miles shouldn’t be a problem for a well maintained transit engine but having already had 2 replacement front bumpers, seat frames and headlight surrounds and evidence of rust on most of the under carriage and cappings, I felt something needed to be done to preserve the my truck.
We’ve all seen various articles on the forum about dinitrol etc and Zag being THE guru which I don’t doubt!
Unfortunately Zag is out of my region and although if I had the time etc I may have paid him a visit the wife would have had some gallows waiting for me on my return for spending more time on the truck than absolutely necessary (she doesn’t have the same enthusiasm for it as I do), and besides since all these dinitrol posts begin I’ve come to know what IRB is all about. In the early days there was no end of comments about a lack of communication / feedback to messages etc which Ian himself I’m sure wouldn’t try to deny. This has improved greatly over time but still has some way to go in my opinion (but then some call be me anal – I prefer to think perfectionist). For me communication is important but for me the critical thing was getting the job done and done right.
I would be very surprised to hear of anyone who’s had work done at IRB and hasn’t been pleased with the work, due to the way he operates I can’t see how that could happen – for me it’s been a case of paying upon completion and completion means ‘job done and satisfied with results’ before handing over any hard earnt £’s.
To this end I decided to let Ian loose with my ‘pride and joy’....... As you’ll see on his face book pages – off with the wheels and bumper (who knows what else – I closed my eyes at this point !).
I’ve not had the chance to get the magnifying glass out to see exactly what’s been done but what I can say is the job done is neat and appears to be very thorough. I dropped by def off and got a lift home with my truck being dropped off at home once completed. I’m not suggesting Ian will do this for everyone but I live within the ‘IRB region’ and I was struggling for lifts to / from so this was another big plus for me. The only criticism I have is when my sealed and polished truck got dropped back home I realised Ian had forgot to order some sunshine so I could inspect it in its full glory.
Perhaps he was too busy answering phone calls and forgot?
I’m not suggesting IRB is the best thing out there because I’ve not tried the other brands (who has tried them all and can genuinely suggest one supplier it better than the others?) and can’t therefore comment. What I can say however is that I can’t fault the work carried out at IRB for me to date, I believe he understands me and my expectations and this goes well beyond preserving my truck. Ian diagnosed my turbo as being faulty (which LR never did - thankfully this resulted in it being replaced FOC by LR), he’s undertaken a routine service and carried out a turbo replacement and egr removal on my dad’s disco 3 .......and you think I’m particular !
So if you’re in the Central region (or beyond) I’d suggest you’ll struggle to find someone who will outperform IRB in terms of quality and performance (I think we all know what he’s achieved in terms of BHP.....sorry Nm – he keeps telling me its more important?)..........
