You can almost get your hand up from the area of the pedals (assume drivers side). I recently did this with a CheckTemp2 and also spotlight wiring.

How did you manage that? I just tried and couldn't get anywhere near that area. While trying I managed to push in a large plastic grommet (up and to the left of the brake pedal) - no idea where it went and I guess I now need to find a replacement - anyone have any ideas how I find the part number ? (Unless there is a chance of retrieving the old one from another act of contortion and grazed skin?).

IIRC I did it from the engine bay into the passenger compartment, and then pulled the wire back through...

Thanks Martin, that is the grommet I was trying to get to from the inside, but wasn't sure if I needed to remove the dash or not. I couldn't get to it with my hand from behind the pedals, but I guess I should just have faith, push through from the engine and do a bit of fishing with a coat hanger. I'm the meantime, I just realised the plastic cap/grommet I pushed through when working my hand behind the pedals was on the side of the pedal box. From the engine bay I can now see the rubber mat on the drivers floor! I am thinking I can pass through there with the cable, routing to ensure it does not interfere with the pedals. That seems the easiest way, unless there is a reason why that is a bad idea?

IIRC I made a new hole at the blanked area where the arrow is pointing, and then pushed a wire thru from the engine bay, which I was able to locate by hand from above the clutch/brake pedal.
Click image to enlarge I then taped the wire in the passenger compartment onto the other wire and pulled them thru... Defender "Puma" 2.4 110 County Utility (possibly the last of the 2.4's) |

Great, thanks. I now have working vhf in the cab, with the radio installed in the cubby box.

You could also do the following:
1) Remove centre dash (where stereo is - two screws and seven clips) 2) Unplug antenna from back of stereo 3) Tie two coloured cables to end of antenna plug 4) Pull antenna wire into engine bay (from engine bay) leaving enough coloured cable on dash side 5) Use one of the cable to pull new cable into dash area - 6) Use other cable to pull stereo antenna cable back into place |

There are some grommet in the bulkhead where you can pass a cable through, see here.
