Does anyone have any sound clips or videos of what a 'knocking' engine sounds like in this exact case? Knocks can be all sorts of varying sound e.g. some are deep and like a 'thud' but some can be hollow and metallic sounding.

Would a puma engine in good condition without this fault still have a slight audible knock / clacking sound when diriving under load / easing off / idling - I've heard plenty of engines that run great with this sort of noise which sounds very similar to mine. Although I'd like to know if the noise I hear is something of concern or just the noise the engine produces, after all - there's hardly any sound deadening, so we're bound to hear the sounds of the enigne when we are listening for it?

And if you're looking at buying one when you've only got experience of what a TD5 sounds like (lovely!) then it's really difficult to compare noises!

Anyway, have a search on YouTube, there are various videos of what they should and shouldn't sound like that might help you.

Thank you everyone for the replies, I'd now be much happier buying a 2007 Puma Smile
I had originally been put off the Pumas but I'm now coming to the conclusion that there are probably more pros than cons. Shame it won't sound as nice!
