Soundproofing
Hi All

I have a 2013MY 110 double cab, so it doesn't have any floor covering in the back below the seats, and has rubber covering in the front. Whilst I like the practicality of the rubber, the vehicle is fairly noisy (which I was expecting) and so I'd like to fit some kind of soundproofing. What do I fit, though?

Exmoor Trim do a nice premium carpet set, which looks factory fitted but does it make much difference to the noise? Also, I'm concerned about carpet in a truck that is used around the farm and will almost certainly leak too!

Noisekiller do a kit, which is specifically about noise reduction, but is it any good?

Exmoor also do their acoustic matting for the front, but I'm not sure that will help much unless I do the back too.

Any views? I'm also noticing the air intake roar from the front wing. The previous owner had a LR RAI fitted, which they removed to fit to their new 110, and so the mounts are all still there. Would fitting an RAI reduce the noise much? Currently it puts me off driving with the window open for very long as it is fairly rowdy.

Loving the vehicle though!

Sorry for all the questions...

Lots of replies on this subject on other threads.
I fitted noise killer which works , but not as good as dynamat .
Also had problems when the summer heat baked the car , it fell off , had to use foam adhesive to stick back , stayed put since though.
Dynamat needs carpets over it , my opinion .....
For me between the engine bay and cab is loudest , noise killer does not fit there .

Agree with Cakey. NK and Dynamat both have their strengths. I have a mix of both (and in some places doubled-up).

NK is great at quietening the noise of wet-road spray under the rear wheelarches.

Dynamat is good inside the front seat boxes (i.e. round the battery, and likewise under the cubby box and drivers seat. It's also good for inside doors etc.

I have a full NK kit, and lots of extra Dynamat (and carpets), and mine's lovely and quiet Thumbs Up

People say NK absorbs water into the foam middle of the sandwich. I can't see Dynamat liking regular dousing too much either tho. Defender "Puma" 2.4 110 County Utility (possibly the last of the 2.4's)

Man up!! Years of Series then Defender driving never hurt my hearing!

Eh, what, uh? Wink

Besides, anyone know where I can get a decent burr walnut shelf made to fit in our Defender, our sherry aperitif is often ruined as the cut crystal glasses keep falling off these damned curvy Puma dashboards. Also looking for some mats with 'wipe your feet before you get in' on them to fit on our side bars, or how about some fold down boot scrapers - anyone? Mr. Green

Made me laugh.

I agree, I knew exactly what to expect having had two series land rovers in the past. Part of the charm!

But on a long journey (it isn't unusual for me to do 400 miles a day) it is quite noisy and so some reduction in the din is probably a good plan as it is being used as my daily driver and I'd still like to be able to hear in 20 years time!

Thanks for advice - think I'll probably opt for a bit of a mixture of solutions and see where I get to.
