I like your definition of 'soon' (only about 2 1/2 months!) You can't beat the anticipation.
I'm hoping to go this year as it's not too far from me. |

Thought I'd bump this rather than making a new thread.
I'm thinking of going, as it'll be my first landrover only show. I did the 4x4 show when it was at Stafford show ground and thought it was a bit pants! I've heard they have trouble at billing with thefts from the car park... Is this a real issue or just a few isolated incidents where security may have not been at its best? |

I'm tempted to go as it's been a while (1992 i think)
I'd heard similar about thefts. Anyone know more? He who dies with the most toys...wins! |

Well Mud had a Land Rover stolen, ok parked at a hotel. Mud vehicle was stolen and never recovered! That night 4 Land Rovers were stolen!
One of the tyre companies had a load of tyres stolen whilst setting up their stand. A forum sponsor had 4 or 5 rims stolen! Look at the exhibitors list and see who is not going! Number of visitors down, number of traders down. In my opinion the Peterborough show has definitely taken over from Billing as the premier Land Rover show in the UK! Brendan |

Peterborough is a right trek from the midlands though, the roads are pretty slow also
I haven't really looked but I take it you won't be there Brendan? Quite surprised Twisted aren't there! Still tempted to go if the weather is half decent. Will be very much a wish list exercise... But also after some stainless sills and bits that I may be able to pick up second hand and get painted up body colour rather than paying top dollar and sanding the brand new parts read for paint. |

Midlands to Peterborough, typically less then 2 hours. For us it is a 3 hour drive towing!
No we will not be having a trade stand at Billing. Had a very interesting talk with Live about Billing v Peterborough! Our decision about attending shows or not is done on a simple business takings v costs v advertising/ number of people reached. Brendan |

We'll be there from Wednesday too.
Billing is an institution and as an Enthusiast like Pete it's as much about catching up with old friends and making new ones as it is about making any money |

It's what you make of it mate, I think it's a good weekend
Although I camp in farmers field behind the show near off road Track. It's always been the Mecca the landrover show to attend, great to See all the clubs and what people do to their landrovers etc , the traders are a good addition but been told They get over charged for pitch so many stay away. I only go to one show as to be fair they are all the same really, I choose Billing as I meet friends there and catch up with people I've met over the years. Come along , Have fun be happy |

We have been camping in the farmers field for quite a few years now and must admit we have never had any trouble or anything stolen, the security seems to be on the ball day and night, also there has always been a good atmosphere amongst everyone on site, and the kids love it as there is plenty of room to run about We used to book camping pitches in the showground, though found it harder each year to find a decent pitch for all off us to be together, we do look forward to the Billing weekend, even the kids can't wait.
Cheers Keith |

I think it's a shame, Brendan that you've posted only negatives about the show, especially including the theft of a vehicle that wasn't even there !
In all fairness, any large gathering, including Peterborough, is going to have its fair share of thefts and that isn't just related to land rover shows it happens at all sorts, unfortunately these events provide easy pickings. But please don't be put off by scaremongers, there are still plenty of quality suppliers who will continue to support the shows and who are not there just to make a profit (believe me, we rarely do) but who are there to showcase their products and to further the experience that is Land Rover ownership |

I am sorry that you think I am being negative and scaremongering Matt.
Adam asked about the thieving and I tried to give an honest answer. Thefts from Billing Land Rover show are not confined to the actual show field, but extends further afield to people attending the show. Yes thieving occurs at all shows but Billing certainly does seem to attract more thieving activity then other shows. I did not mention us not having a trade stand until basically asked. We have carefully considered the costs of attending Billing, the work involved before, during and after the show: the number of people seen, the craic etc and decided not to attend. This afternoon I was talking to a firm who used to have a large stand at Billing and their attitude was they do not blame us for not going. Other companies will make their own decision about having a trade stand at Billing based on their own criteria. Yes it is my opinion that Peterborough has taken over from Billing as the UK premier LR show. OK it might not have the history, or emotional attachment but at least it is on a proper showground.
