As requested, a pic of how I attached the grille lights:

They are screwed to these C-section aluminium which are cable-tied to the vehicle, meaning completely reversible without damage.

I also fitted a third antenna to the rear of my roof rack, to use with PMR radios on certain events such as C4H and others I support through Lothian 4x4 Response:

The CB antenna remains on the right, but I moved the amateur one to the centre & fitted the new PMR one to the left next to the ladder.

Hey Mark, saw those pics on FB - looks good. I like the way you've sync'd the grill lights. 2007 (57) Defender 90 (Sold)
Looking for another to replace it.

The road less travelled.... is a muddy one!

The heads have 12 different flashing patterns (see attached), but that one is the one I've left it on for now. They were easy to sync just connect the white with the +12v supply for set A, and don't connect white for set B. The heads all have their yellow wires connected, this is the what changes the flash pattern (momentary +12v for next pattern).

I'm certainly closer to your vehicle that you are just now Razz

It's pretty straightforward once you've sorted out how the lights work with the controller (depending which ones you get) but I'd already figured that out on the workbench using a 12v battery pack. Mark S

yeah just a bit closer Sad

I've not bought anything... yet! I'm hoping to get something higher quality that will still fit on the spot light bar (I quite like them up there) but I doubt the Britax ones will fit due to the size

Spent a whole evening on ebay and didn't really achieve much Laughing

You should steer clear of eBay and look at quality kit from a reputable supplier. I started a thread about beacons on here a few months back, that can be found HERE.

Something like this might suit your purpose, although I've no idea on the controls of these (whether controller driven or within each unit) https://www.emergencyequipmentshop.co.uk/c...ullitt-x31 It's a compact unit from the look of things, which would replace the el-cheapo specials you have at the minute. Mark S

Well I have now removed the antennae and the beacon from the rack, plus the rack to chassis ladder, in preparation for getting the body cappings replaced. I've bought new cappings which are being painted up this week, and should be fitted sometime next week. (In case you're wondering, the supply to the beacon was routed up the ladder, which needed to be removed to drill out the rivets, and the antennae cables need slackened enough to lift the roof up, so I have removed to prevent damage.

The cappings weren't horrendous, but the rear corner next to the top mounting for the swingaway was crumbling away to nothing, along with the beginnings of bubbling along the drivers side. The nearside one was better, small signs of corrosion along the side but the rear facing portion was definitely needing attention. I could probably have got the damaged sections cut out, welded repair sections in, then painted up the affected areas, but given the areas affected I reckoned that the whole capping could be replaced in one piece for a little more initial outlay. Pics (before and after replacement) will follow soon, I didn't bother taking pics of the rack without the antennae and beacon as they'll be getting refitted afterwards. Mark S

Here's the photos of the cappings, definitely needing attention:

This corner is definitely the worst, and the inside is pretty rotten here too.

And I also started working on raising the cubby box to a better height, the pic shows the difference in height between standard supporting battens, and the 'joists' I'm replacing them with:

I did something much along those lines with the cubby box Mark but instead of just putting wider "battens" I created a box under the cubby fixed to the seat box then put a hinge on the bottom of the cubby and fixed it to the new box. Now I can just lift the front of the cubby and gives me access to the box underneath. I re routed my OBD socket into the box out of sight and keep odds and sods that need to be handy but out of the way.

Mine will need doing soon, I've been reading up about replacing body cappings for a while... Mine have also rotted where the wheel carrier used to bolt to.

Mark, did you get galvanised ones, to paint over? Galv is definitely the way I am thinking of going, whether left bare or painted over.... 1998 110 300Tdi White Hard Top

Plan with the cubby is to use the space underneath for a vehicle PMR set (display & mic on dash) and a small storage area, plus re-locate the OBDII socket as previously mentioned.

The cappings I got were YRM galv'd ones, which are being painted for me before fitting. Mark S

Nice idea. I like that. Thumbs Up

How about an over centre toggle catch at the back. That way things like jump leads can be compressed down?
