pressing bearings
As part of the self sufficient servicing plan I'm looking at getting a press for doing things like bearing and bush replacement etc. How heavy should I be looking for, ie would 12 tonnes be man enough or would 20 be more useful? Help please. Rhubarb and custard let fly with their secret weapon.

I'd go for 20 personally, although I did mine with a 150 tonne press! (I think that may be a little OTT!) An engine to TDi for!

Get the largest one you can afford. You WILL need it. It wasn't me!

Ok cheers for the info. I'll look into a 30 tonne as well. Is there a better style of press to go for as many seem to be a bottle jack in a frame but a couple are kinda like a toothed vertical bar in a cast c shape thing? Rhubarb and custard let fly with their secret weapon.

You would be better off going for one with an independant ram and not a bottle jack!

I borrowed my uncles bottle jack one as my proper one was being resealed. I owe him a new one put it that way!

Something like this> http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/20T-TON-HYDRAULI...3ce0380a9f

Nothing to do with me, just wanted to show one.
