Pages 2 and 3 of the Lucas ECU pdf available from Nanocom might be of help but it's not a straightforward answer from what I can see.

Thanks a lot macpaul..
Yeah why is there never an answer that jumps out of the page at me?! Had a look though and cant see any obvious ECU earths on that pdf, surly there must be a earth point on the engine, chassis or does it earth through its body or is the ring terminal under the ECU is main earthing point.. Any ideas anyone? |

You're welcome.
I've been told by those that know that the earth for the ECU is indeed the black wire coming from the main bunch (red plug?), that terminates in the ring fitting that is is screwed to the stud at the bottom of the underseat box. Not the case itself. If the earth straps around the vehicle aren't great to this box, resistance can be created. Either test any resistance by using a multimeter from the -ive terminal on the battery to the stud in the box (not poss with my multimeter - too far) or by running a cable direct from the battery to the stud. You can just jury rig it and drape the cable across the seats to start with to see if it helps and if it does, do it permanently on the underside. Which is what I did. From what you say, my money's on it being another fault but good luck and let us know how it goes. Simon. 2003 Td5 110 Hardtop Now a 2013 110 USW too. |

I am sure the earth for the ecu and the earth for the obd socket terminate at the same place in the seat box I am not too sure if they go to the header under the seat box or not I have had a few of these headers apart with quite a lot green in them.
