General Grabber AT2s? or something else?
I'm gonna need new tyres at some point in the near future (got to 60k miles on my GG TRs and they're pretty good) and am planning to go to ATs when i replace the current ones.

I like the look of the General Grabber AT2s, what is generally thought of them?

Would be sticking to 235/85/r16 size and keeping the same boost alloys.

Don't particularly like the look of the Contis which are standard fitment now, and find the BFGs look a bit over the top but I've never seen BFGs in 235/85/16 i don't think, they're normally really wide and often on scruffier vehicles (farmers) around here so maybe I'm biased but i just like the look of the AT2s.

Don't want too noisy and want to get good life and a not-too-aggressive tread pattern and standard width (don't like the dumper truck tyre look!, so I'm open to suggestions, and especially pictures of what people have. Cheers, David

AT2's are excellent. I've had them on my last three Land Rovers in various sizes and I've just fitted the slightly more road biased AT's to my Disco 3. Darren

according to General's website, the AT2 doesn't exist? has it been replaced by the AT? i don't like the look as much..

Doesn't seem to be an issue getting AT2s though, think thats what ill go for. Cheers, David

^^ If you go for AT2s and if they would have been discontinued, better check the manufacturing date code on the tire first. You don't really want to buy new tires which in effect are already several years old....
Eric You never actually own a Defender. You merely look after it for the next generation.

Not sure where you were looking David, but the AT2 is a current tire(sic) on the General website:

I'm confused, it doesn't exist on the eu website, but it appears on the .com site.. Which is the UK? There is no '.co.uk' or '.com/UK' so I just looked on the EU site..

Either way, they exist on the websites of places to buy tires so no issue. Cheers, David

I swapped my Mud Tyres for General Grabber AT2's and they are fantastic.

Can pop out and take a pic if need be? mine are 265'75'16 on grey modulars?

I find them to be quiet, much more economical, and haven't let me down yet.

My 2 cents worth but I'd say go for them Thumbs Up

Slightly off topic, but can anyone advise on correct tire pressures front and rear 235/85/16 AT2s (boosts on a 90)
Manual says 28psi front and 38 rear but tires have 80 psi on side wall which is a big difference (I realise this is max pressure)
Thanks

Cheers, they do look good and cheaper than BFGs too. How do they seem to go wear-wise? Assume you'll get similar or a little longer out of them than TRs... Cheers, David

hmm ok, i suppose I've only ever had TRs on my 110 but it feels ok.

Noticed losing grip at the front in the wet now hence the need for change, although thats probably more due to the fact that theres 65k miles on them nearly. Probably would be fair to expect 70/80 on the ATs id imagine, the rears seem to wear about 20% slower than the fronts as well Cheers, David
