Most likely the trailer plug if it's been sitting about for a while.
Change it for a new one, they are only cheap and go from there. That's what I'd recommend anyway.
Thumbs Up

Just looked up the prices; you weren't joking. New tow-vehicle-side socket and trailer plug with p&p comes to just under a tenner? United Kingdom 1991 Defender 110 200 Tdi USW Arles Blue
Test Drove a TD5 Today. Hated it.

Clutch was too light and I stalled it 3 times as it was underpowered compared to my 200TDI low down and had to rev it just to move.

Really couldn't get on with it so made a list of bits that need doing and started sending out emails Thumbs Up

My 110 is having a birthday soon Very Happy

@Shaggy - from your comments sounds like you found a very bad example to base your judgements on! OK, I'm a Td5 driver so I'm biased, but have experience of 300 Tdi's as well and the Td5 definitely doesn't feel underpowered in comparison. Yes, they are different in character, but I find the Td5 a great engine. Can I ask what year the one you tested was? Mine is a late 2005 so towards the end of production when all the niggles had been ironed out. Also worth mentioning that Td5's have an anti-stall (not as advanced as the Puma's, but there nonetheless). You have to be a little gentle on the clutch, and not touch the throttle, but the ECU does sort it out and jacks the revs to compensate. I can drive uphill in second with my feet off the pedals. 2005 Td5 | 90 Station Wagon | Tonga Green

@Green Machine- I can entirely appreciate that and yes I am somewhat in the minority on here being a Tdi owner (eep!) But I was just completely underwhelmed by it.

I have test driven 2.2's, 2.4's 300Tdi and own a 200Tdi so the Td5 was a bit of a blank for me. I had previously driven a discovery TD5 and was quite impressed by it but as it was an automatic it was difficult to compare as its go or stop peddles.

The one I drove today was a 2002 version so a fairly mid production version but I just wasn't impressed by it. I'm used to just lifting the clutch until it bites and balance the revs (if needed) in to make a smooth pull off and just feed in the power as needed. The one I drove I found the biting point and stall. Restart, Biting point, again bit of revs and pulled away but even so seemed a bit odd to have to rev to find the biting point. If you did it with no power on it would just die.

Once going however was a very nice smooth drive with lots of power on tap, just felt a bit underwhelmed with its low down power. The dealer did say it may need a maf sensor which it could well be, in which case a very poor introduction to the what I still believe to be a fantastic engine.

Needless to say have decided to invest in what I know rather than invest in something which (in all honest) was far to posh for what I need.
