1) When i turn the aircon on, the front end (I'm assuming the electric fan) makes an unbearable screeching noise! Kind of like when a bathroom extractor fan is on its last legs. Can the fan be removed & cleaned/greased or is there a bearing which may have failed or is it just knackered? (if so is it much to replace?)
2) The more serious issue: The car seems to (with increasing frequency) suddenly send the temp gauge to the very top (no hot water light or EM light though) and go into limp mode. After 5/6 secs the gauge will rapidly drop back down to dead level and full power is resumed. The car (as far as i can tell) ISNT actually getting hot as it'll happily go up a long steep hill at 75+ without getting warm at all, then some time later i might be doing say 50 mph and it'll just do it. Also has happened in very low gears and when pulling away once. It doesn't always even seem to happen under load. It has done this once before on the way to the lakes say a year ago but its happened 5/6 times in the last 300mi now. So I checked on the fault code reader and it came up with only one fault code which I've had before in the past (same one as when it did it that one time before) and I've had this fault code before without going into limp mode too. The code is P1103 which according to BAS website is "MAF sensor higher than expected but within range". Any ideas folks? Cheers, David Land Rovers of all shapes S3 onwards… Daily is a 110 V8. |

W.r.t. 2) When I'm remapping, communication with the ECU makes the temperature gauge go to the top and sit there.
Probably not helpful (sorry) but just some info. Tell someone you love them today because life is short. But shout it at them in German because life is also terrifying and confusing... |

That fault code can also sometimes be linked with EGR issues, as well as being a nuisance too.
I'm assuming though that your EGR is working fine? Fan wise I'd imagine replacement would be better, doubt you can do much with it. |

agh cheers guys. Ill go and have a look under the drivers seat in a bit! Have been doing some fiddling around there so could be that.. fingers crossed
Steve: no my EGR has been shut off by a remap... that was only recently though and this has happened before. Maybe something to look into if its not the relay under the seat. Ill have a good look at the fan. It can't be expensive I wouldn't think? Cheers, David Land Rovers of all shapes S3 onwards… Daily is a 110 V8. |

When the temp guage goes to the very top does the rev counter drop to 0 also at the same time ? And other lights on the dash when it does it ?

Nope, nothing else. Just gauge flicks to the top, then slowly falls. Revs stay accurate and decrease as speed drops slowly as in limp mode. No engine light and no high temperature warning light. Did just have a look under the seat and there was a loose relay, pushed it back in but not had chance to test-drive.
Just looked on ebay, only Ł30-40 so not too bad! Will investigate further in a bit...[/quote] Cheers, David Land Rovers of all shapes S3 onwards… Daily is a 110 V8. |

Little bit worried now guys...
Decided to run with torque pro (obd gauge app) running today and see what it recorded. Engine coolant was around 95-105 .C most of the time but at one point got to 116.c at which point problem 2 above happened. Sounds like I could have an overheating issue? Don't understand why the gauge wouldn't record it running hot on the dash though? Only jumped up to the red briefly before falling rapidly. Otherwise it never strayed from the dead level mark? Hmmmm.... Cheers, David Land Rovers of all shapes S3 onwards… Daily is a 110 V8. |

Keep coming back to this MAF sensor fault.
They're about 30-50 pounds so maybe worth replacing in future. First though can it be cleaned/inspected? Cheers, David Land Rovers of all shapes S3 onwards… Daily is a 110 V8. |

if this was an older car I would be checking the cable and connections to the coolant temp sensor DEFENDER 90 TDCI XS,
I hope everyone is well and your land rovers make you happy |

Maybe your thermostat? Your engine coolant temp is rather high compared to what I get here. I run with the ultra gauge and temp is usually between 88 - 90° C. Highest I've ever seen is 92°C. And keep in mind I live in the sub-tropics with an average temp in the mid 30s (my intake temp on average is 45°C - could do with a bigger intercooler) The gauge is very insensitive and kind of designed to stay at the halfway point. If it would be as accurate as your OBD gauge a lot of people would keep brining their cars back to the garage. Probably only goes up when the temps are really high. Hope you find the problem soon! |

I agree with Rakthi with my Scangauge II my CWT never goes above 90 degrees. I think it'll be a thermostat or associated connectivity issue.
Good luck in finding the root cause. If you go through life with your head in the sand....all people will see is an ar5e!! Treat every day as if it is your last....one day you will be right!! |
