500 Amp Fuse in Pos Battery Cable
Is this fuse really necessary? My Td5 doesn't have one.
I think when I install the dual battery, I'll just get rid of it.

Is it April 1st? First and foremost by your avatar your current vehicle is NOT a TD5......

The fuse is there for a very good reason, design engineers with degrees have placed that fuse there having worked out various formulas and criteria for the electrical system of your vehicle. Why not stick your thumb on the negative terminal and your other on the positive to see what effect an unprotected battery has and how much amperage it will deliver? Once you're out of hospital and if you still have two thumbs you could drop us a line and let us all know, don't forget to fit your spurs beforehand it'll help with conductivity to ground!

Yes you can just remove it as it's a new safety item that will probably never be required. I was going to bin mine but then found with a bit of alteration that I could leave it in place, and it actually works well for attaching other accessories to.

What batteries are you going to fit?

Shocked Let's hope.....Probably!!!

Doesn't your statement say anything to you?

On the 2.4 wiring diagrams I have access to it is depicted as a 400 amp fuse and is indeed for the starter motor.

It does serve a purpose obviously and your mpg will not improve drastically with the weight saved of removing it. If the 'T' arrangement of the megafuse makes it difficult for your dual battery fit source a heavy duty inline one but retain some form of protection.

Yes. And I hope you enjoy driving your modern euro box with all it's air bags, crumple zones and ISO fixings, whilst wearing fire overalls, crash hat, and neck brace.

Remove the fuse and fit a cut down M6 bolt, as they're much lighter than the fuse itself

These bolts are also handy for using in 13amp plug tops, makes them much lighter to handle, and definately safer because as they will never blow, you will never have the risk of jabbing your finger with a screwdriver when you try to change one!
