Drop the tank, new filters etc. however as it's been run Land Rover would recommend engine work as well. I did the same last year, noticed before I started it and got it recovered.

Cost me a couple of hundred quid but the warranty was maintained. Dealer has a set process to follow. John

I believe if you're in the AA or RAC, they'll sort it out for you. You might have to pay them extra though.

I Hope you get sorted okay, it's so easily done.

I did it a few years back, drove a good few miles before it started smoking. I was in the middle of nowhere in France, phoned LRZ assist, got towed to a local dealer (very lucky there was one nearby) and they had me up and running in a few hours. There was no damage done even though I given the engine a good drink of petrol, business as usual once it had been drained.

The dealer replaced the filter and gave me a €150 ish euro bill, result. Needless to say I'm very careful at the pumps now Smile Nick

Undo the jubilee clip on the fuel filler hose where it joins the tank. Parking with near side (left) of vehicle raised will help. Drain petrol into suitable container. Change fuel filter. Fill with diesel. Carry on as normal.

Eventually managed to siphon the fuel out and used fuel pump to empty rest of system by detaching the return to the tank at the fuel filter. Have also removed and emptied the fuel filter and bought a new one. Will probably flush the system a little before fitting the new filter.
I will report progress later, planning to restart after some lunch.
cheers folks.

Pleased to say all seems to be fine now. Having filled and replaced the fuel filter, put some fresh diesel in the tank, flushed again by disconnecting the return pipe on the fuel filter housing, and then running the engine for a while into town to top up with diesel with the old fuel filter before fitting the new fuel filter.
Better than paying AA/RAC £200 for only draining the tank, no other system flushing, filter drain etc.
Phew!
Thanks to all for the advice and offers of help.
