Just got back from having the second service done on the Puma. The dealers have also agreed to replace the clutch (Rattle when turning off the engine. No rattle with clutch pedal depressed)
Steering box to be replaced.(Slight leak coming from the top of the box. Very slight but I pointed it out) Door bolts and bumper to be changed owing to rust, along with the headlight bezels. Also one door trim which is not flush with the door. This was removed to attend to a central locking problem and never fitted 100% since. As usual the non start does not show up but a new update was uploaded to the engine. I was not keen on this as she was running beautifully but as Land rover issued the instruction I let them go ahead. Driving home (about 130 kms) I noticed that the engine sounded differently, slightly deeper and maybe louder. Also noticed that I could use the gears at a lower speed. Will fill her up and check the fuel consumption. I was told that the upload was to do with the fuelling of the vehicle. Was pointing stuff out to the service man on my arrival and what I wanted done. During the conversation he said -"Well you probably know more about them than me". "There is no probably about it as I have three of them"I said and that got the ball rolling. People in suits are not usually used to being dragged under a Land Rover to look at leaking steering boxes and earth straps etc There was a bedraggled series 111 in the yard awaiting attention. I was looking at it when the senior sales man came out. We got talking. He told me that he sold his first Land Rover in 1955. Then he told me of the first diesel Land Rover he sold. He sold it on a Friday and took a Hillman Minx as a trade in. The farmer that bought it came back on Monday and wanted someone to look at the Land Rover as it was very noisey! He traded it in for an Austin A6 (I think). Anyway the series 1 diesel was sold locally. He thinks that the same people still have it but it is sitting in a field now. Anyway an interesting morning. 1982 88" 2.25 diesel 1992 110 200tdi csw -Zikali 2008 110 2.4 tdci csw-Zulu 2011 110 2.4 tdci csw-Masai |

Yes it was Toppings. I found out why there was a change in engine noise. The airfilter was changed but the top of the airfilter box was not refitted correctly leaving some of the filter exposed.Have sorted that out now. Glad I did'nt hit heavy rain coming home! Disappointed to see the high standards slipping so I have sent an e-mail outlining the above and expressing my disappointment. Would still recommend them as they are pretty good. Service cost 350. If you are thinking of booking in tell them I recommended them to you. PM me if you need personal contact details at the garage. 1982 88" 2.25 diesel

Is it yet another new version, or the same as the recall, did they tell you? Mine should go for the first service in a month or so... |

I have no idea. It was not a recall as I had no advance warning.I was told it was to be done as it was a Land Rover directive. The first service was done last year and nothing was uploaded then. This is the first update I have had. I was told it was to do with the fueling. Will not know until I put some miles on her if there is any difference in the fuel consumption. 1982 88" 2.25 diesel

Cecil Humes is still there. He was the person telling me about the Land Rovers he sold. There is a photo of him on their web site. Probably changed a bit since your purchase though! Nice bloke. 1982 88" 2.25 diesel
