Hi,
Not sure which box you are referring to as DAF use ZF gearboxes also.…..... I know the ICON Defender uses the ZF HP 22 & 24 auto box options is this what you are referring to? M 90 & Wolf 110 XS Previously owned SI SII SIIa SIII & Light weight (air portable) |

Have a look at the ashcroft site.
http://www.ashcroft-transmissions.co.uk/automatic-gearboxes.html And http://www.ashcroft-transmissions.co.uk/de...-kits.html Looks like you need a ZF4HP22EH and you have a ZF4HP22? Hi Sandbox, this will be the same set up a Discovery 2 auto, personaly I would stick with the non electrical version as it would be more reliable, Disco 2 have a switch on the side of the gearbox called xyz switch, then an ECU which would also need programming, very expensive , however the xyz switch are prone to playing up, very easy to repair, so no need to buy a replacement, but are a pain to re-place in the exact same spot as they need to work correctly with the positioning of gear selection. Hope this helps

if you could mate the engine & box together, then the Mercedes E class gearbox (the 722.6 version) is a lovely unit.
5 speed (forwards) 2x reverse too. has summer/winter settings (makes it pull away in 2nd and doesn't rev as high). There's a chap in Germany who makes a compushift type thing for this box so it works as stand alone (but this box can also have engine sensors on it to make the gearchanges more smooth), you can plug a laptop in and change the settings, or use the little dash joystick and toggle through the menu on a small LED screen. you can also fit flappy paddle switches too! |

I definitely don't want to be putting a mercedes gearbox in the defender.
Thanks for the info Grey110 and everyone else. |

it will he an HP 22.
you can upgrade it - different TC or get Dave A to fit the larger P38 oil pump etc with an HP22/24 amalgamation. personally i would stick with the non ecu one you have. compushift is excellent, we had it on Philons TD5 Croatia vehicle, you can change just about everything. we had no issues with it but personally i prefer the std boxes. i run two hp22/24 amalgamations, one with 4.6TC the other the 4.0TC. I just getting my 90 50th V8 upgraded with a 5.2 engine and will replace the automatic gearbox as well. Ashcroft got an upgraded version of the ZF with bigger convertor available without the need for Compushift. m

There:
http://www.ashcroft-transmissions.co.uk/au...4hp22.html Saying that you better be not in a rush. They are very slow to deal with...... But I am sure this will sort your car the easiest way.m |

I would keep the standard mechanical ZFHP22 that is in the 50th. It works very well with the Rover V8.
Why do you want to change the gearbox anyway? If you are upgrading the power on your V8 then the Ashcroft ZF4HP22EH heavy duty conversion is all you will need and even then is not absolutely necessary. |
