Chinese Petrol Engines like Honda GX160
Has anyone got any experience of small Chinese petrol engines?

I am after a new engine for my old Merrytiller (rotovator) about the 5hp mark - something like a Honda GX160 - as the old Briggs and Stratton one dies under load.

Looking around there are a number of Honda copies like Launtop, Loncin, etc. for half the money of the Honda.

Now I only use the thing a dozen times a year so its not going to be working that hard, but don't want to waste my money on something if it a heap of Censored.

We use the Loncin ones on the kiddy crafts and they work fine. It really depends on your use of it, if itis going to have a hard life and be used a lot then maybe it is worth buying the honda but if you look around, you can find these at 1/4 of the price of the Honda!!!

SachaR, Interesting, it looks like your picture has the exact engine I have been looking at on eBay - its badges as a Villiers, but looks like a rebadged Loncin.

If you were thinking of going down the Briggs And Stratton route it would probably be cheaper to buy a cheap lawn mower with a Briggs and Stratton engine than to buy an engine on its own !

Just a thought. 2005 Td5 90 XS

Briggs and Stratton Vanguard have been the best for me over the years. I have used most makes in a commercial setting and they have survived and had the least issues! http://www.briggsandstratton.com/us/en/engines/commercial-engines 90 & Wolf

if your using it all the time then I would say Honda
but if its a hobby tool then you cant knock the price of the copy engines
seen the copy engines on generators last really well and done plenty of work for half the cost of a Honda

Honda engined generator or a copy one?

Honda engines generators are a lot quieter and are very easy to get spares for if anything goes wrong.

Honda copy engines try getting spares Rolling with laughter

Recently took a friends copy generator in for repair and the guys just groaned when they saw it! Big Cry

No badge on it, so no easy clues to make. First comment was, 'Not a Honda, so it will not be easy to find the right spare!' They warned me it might be easier and cheaper to buy another copy generator then try and repair the one I took in.

However with some effort they did find the spare part which was more expensive then the Honda equivalent part!

Well the deed is done, a brand new Briggs and Stratton came up on ebay for £129.99 + £5 p&p.

Bought it from some company that sell kart parts, but has 3/4 shaft and keyway so very happy.
