CR, please check your PM's. There are a few awaiting reading.
Tks, Eric You never actually own a Defender. You merely look after it for the next generation. http://youtu.be/yVRlSsJwD0o https://youtu.be/vmPr3oTHndg https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_GtzTT9Pdl0 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ABqKPz28e6A https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rLZ49Jce_n0 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XvAsz_ilQYU https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K8tMHiX9lSw https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=dxwjPuHIV7I https://vimeo.com/201482507 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZSixqL0iyHw |

My car I am collecting next week has these wheels.
The lacquer has blown. The issue is the central hub (fixed) which means you cant actually refinish all the way to the middle due to the shape. Lacquer on polish is always a nightmare. I plan to get a painted finish silver, but with the grey bits grey still - so the look should be similar but it will last longer. LR admitted they couldnt do it so have given me £350 to sort myself. My detailer uses my alloys in basingstoke. Will post up results. These are as they are today you can see the milky spot whee it has blown. Click image to enlarge |

There should be no reason why a factory finish cannot be replicated.
All you need to do is find the RIGHT shop to do it correctly, with "proof", recommendations, previous jobs etc, that they can do what they say they can. The other point is cost. I've seen "as new" Dual finish alloys on this site for very reasonable money, so it might even be cheaper to find another set in good condition. I love the Dual Finish alloys, the best O.E. Defender wheel IMHO Pickles. |

Yup.
The issue is to machine the polished finish they need to use a lathe and because the centre piece protrudes and isnt round the first place I spoke to couldnt get to the very centre. Hard to describe. I suspect the factory finish is applied and THEN the centre section is fixed in place. |

If I wanted my Defender to look mint I'd buy a new set and get half the money back selling the old set.
Would save you alot of hassle and people always want them secondhand |

Thanks all. Will do.
I've had a lot of wheels of different shapes and sizes done by My Alloys. Will take the car to them once I have collected either Thurs/Friday. |
