Husqvarna were always a good make
I find any 2 stroke with a fuel pump bulb in them seem to start better after sitting for a while I had a stihl chainsaw it was fews years old but not used that much and I gave up with it after it ran out of petrol and the bl@@dy thing wouldn't start again after refilling , I beat it to death on the concrete went out and brought a cheap plastic thing and it's been really good , give the bulb a few pumps and it start really easy , ok not as powerful as proper make but I can't knock it for the money |

Husqvarna every time
 I have one just for the very same thing, almost 10 years old now  I have used a lot commercially also and always end up going back to Husqvarna  It must be the Swedish in me coming out  90 & Wolf

Stihl for me due to the ease of repair, and cost of parts. A lot of the husq repairs involve splitting the crankcase wich is a colmplete PITA.
But would only buy husq or stihl for petrol saws. Andy |

Stihl 171 for me. Had it around 4 years, done some big jobs (trunks where I had to cut both sides because the blade is too short).
The main reason I went for Stihl over Husky was because there's a local Stihl agent nearby, so I was sure of good post-sales support Had it been a good Husky dealer nearby, it would probably have been a Husky... Defender "Puma" 2.4 110 County Utility (possibly the last of the 2.4's) |

MS260, it'll do everything you want and last for ever. The smaller saws bog down something shocking when logging up.

Agree with Buzz,
Had my ms260 for 8 years now Its cut hundreds of trees down now and i havent had a single problem with it. |

Stihl and Husqvarna have roughly equal followings amongst the pros and for a very good reason, both firms make some exceptionally good saws (and some very disappointing ones too).
Personally I have always favoured Husky over Stihl (personal preference) except for top handle saws, when Stihl used to have the edge but now don't, however since you won't be wanting a topper this isn't a factor. Be aware that Stihl recently extended its face-to-face-only sales policy from just saws and machinery to everything, so now in theory you cannot buy any Stihl materials, tools, or spare parts except by visiting a dealer - internet sales from Stihl dealers are prohibited by their contracts with Stihl unless you are personally know to the dealer. This has resulted in a significant move from Stihl to Husky and others in the arborist and forestry industries. You can of course still buy Stihl parts from non-approved suppliers via the internet. In the case of both makes the professional saws are much better made than the "home user" saws. As is so often the case, you get what you pay for. |

I agree ms260 fantastic. But they don't make them anymore, it's ms 261 which are rubbish. We are buying secondhand 260 because they are good strong saws.
Ms261 had a sprocket problem which ruins the crank. The 260 was a £550. The husq for £170 will be a good domestic saw. Just make sure you cut clean timber. |

hi, I am using a Stihl 026 , must have more than 20 years , I think it was a good choice ! only, replaced the ignition some month ago. to be honest, it do not start immediately first time of the day, but well after Philippe current : defender 110 sw 2.2 puma 2012 and 230.000km today and again my Range Rover VM2.5 engine from 1992 and 528.000km today. Either Canon or Nikon I think both are very good. If you use Canons you love Canons if you use a Nikon you'll probably love that as well. Like I say both are the best at what they do.
Avoid Olympus, Sony, Pentax. Harder to get lenses accessories servicing etc. |

All Good Points- Though I suspect Tiger may have got his wires crossed?
Definitely sold on the idea of a Husqvarna, I don't know of any Stihl dealers near me and the last thing I want to do when ordering parts is drive for half a hour to pick them up! I reckon the 236 will probably do me though maybe looking at "the next model up" as some of the logs can be a bit on the thick side. So Husky 435 or Husky 236? |

My Stihl 039 Farmboss died this week, the crank seals failed allowing air in and the piston ran too hot, not seized but badly scored
My second Stihl saw, first being an 051 died in a similar piston failure some years ago I have replaced it with a Husky 435, is not as powerful as either Stihl I've had, but I don't often fell treas these days and it's ideal for domestic logging needs, lighter and cheaper than a replacement ms390 power unit for the Stihl
Husqvana seem to have a good name, so we'll see |
