Some CB Questions
Hi Guys,

I installed my CB kit today (first):

Intek H-520 handheld (so I can use it when spotting too) with car-kit
Small Springer Mounted using a firestik widget on the plastic jobby RAI - this has an earth cable to the RAI mount on the pillar, continuity is great.

Now, initially SWR was at 2.8 on channel 1 and >3 on 40 so I needed to chop down the whip, I had to take about 3 inches off to get SWR to 1.2, this is constant across all channels - this is good right?

Now I seem receiving just fine - listened in to a conversation that sounded like it was west London so anywhere between 6-15 miles away.

However - when I ask if anyone is receiving me, nada nothing back Sad

Do you reckon it just a case of I'm too far away from anyone.

Thanks in advance guys.

John

You have a good SWR and are receiving others. So I recon you are all good. Think you are not getting reply as the others are not willing to talk to stranger.

Need to find someone local to help.

Andy

Most likely no-one's listening.
All on mobiles these days.
Drive to the top of a hill and try it.

It might be that your range for transmitting isn't that far. I've never tested it, but when we're out on the lanes I reckon range is not more than a mile or so.

Would be interested in what range is typical.

Cheers
