Moving on...
Well, after nearly three years with my 110, it's time for a change and last night I arranged to buy a Discovery 3 from Tiger of this parish, to be collected some time next week. The 110 has been great fun, but it's an itch that I feel I've now scratched and I'm looking forward to a new Land Rover experience. My right shoulder will also thank me, as it's been giving me grief for months Rolling Eyes

So, I'll be going from this:

I went from a 110 double cab to a D3 and now back to a 110 Utility. The D3 was probably the best vehicle I have ever owned but when it came to change I couldn't justify the cost of a D4. I had a good run in my 3 years of D3 ownership, only had a new passenger door lock and both EGR valves replaced. The possibility of big bills is what made me change in the end.

Be careful. Today for a mate I had to change the rear prop on his d3 as the centre bearing had disintegated, not a bad job but the new prop cost him 300 odd quid Shocked Shocked Shocked also while lying under his car we noticed that his tracking was out of whack again and has done significant harm to 3 of the tyres and the other is not far behind, given his last tracking was dealer calibrated only last summer and his tyres are well over a hundred quid each it seems that deep pockets are the order of the day with d3 and 4 Rhubarb and custard let fly with their secret weapon.

Still got my D3 but it just sits on the drive as I prefer my 110.
The D3 is in a different class for comfort, but I'm afraid it's the defender for me.
Think i will sell the D3 & maybe get a newer 110, either CSW or a utility.
I don't worry about a small dent or scratch on the defender as it's all character markings.

Enjoy the comforts of the D3, brilliant & capable motor.

Thumbs Up

Thanks Gum, that's very kind. I'm sure I'll still be around Smile

Thanks for everybody's concern about my wallet Wink In all seriousness though, I understand the potential running costs and Tiger has been very honest with me about his Discovery. Darren

Best of luck and enjoy the comfort. I hadn't really thought my shoulder issues could be to do with the 110 .. Roll on the good weather so I can an arm out the window. 2008 Defender 110 XS SW - M57N2 / 6HP28X

good luck Darren, reading thru the comments, looks like you may well be back in the fold sometime in the future. One (of the many) great things about the discovery models is the turning circle when compared to a 110 ... enjoy your new truck.. Thumbs Up

Thanks guys Thumbs Up i might well have another Defender in the future (I've always fancied a soft top 90) but it's not practical for me at the moment. Too many hobbies and not enough time for them all!

I don't think my shoulder problem has been caused by the 110, but it's not helping it, unfortunately Sad That's not the only reason I'm moving on though. It's a combination of things including a change in driving patterns meaning more motorway miles, nagging concerns about safety for my kids and the fact that I just fancy a change. Together they make the perfect excuse to try a Disco 3 Smile

Not sure about the turning circle Confused My 110 has 30mm spacers and is more manoeuverable than our old Disco II. Darren

Ill be sorry to see you go Darren.

Im just going through a major change at my place of work, going from a 45 minute 17 mile commute but with own car park, to a 10 minute 5 mile commute to city centre, but with no car park so will have to park on the street. Im sure my 110 will get nicked in the first month!! I considered selling my 110 but I can't bring myself to part with it, and I need it to tow my caravan, so I'm thinking of keeping it and getting a motorbike to solve parking issues.

Thanks Warpig. It's a sad fact of life that we sometimes need to adapt to changing circumstances. Darren
